Why Waterman #2 Is Stamped 2 While Its Feed Diameter Is 4Mm?

Folks,

I understand that #6 nib will fit 6mm diameter feed. I have a waterman #2 nib, fitted on 4mm diameter (Waterman pen No 12).

Why is this the case with Waterman nibs? I think it should be stamped #4. Right?

Thanks.

What you say is true for the modern generic German nibs from Bock and JoWo/WIN. Vintage and other current makes use their own proprietary nib numbering/designating system .

It was confusing, since I was looking for #2 nibs for my noodler's creaper. I know it takes #2, where I fitted the waterman nib on it. But when I measured the diameter, it is 4mm.

Since I am a student, I do not want to carry fancy pens to school, where everybody stare at me while using them. I started fitting vintage nibs on my creaper and FPR airmail pen (takes #5 nibs) to get rid of others looks.

Thanks.

Number one...they used inches in US pens.

As Hari said, one company's #2 nib was not the next's. They would be @ close....not exact....in I don't think folks were quite so AR about minor things as today.

That was the day of One Man, One Pen....brand loyalty....gave you the nib width you were accustomed too, and you tried pens and nibs at your local corner pen store.

You ended up with the nib of your choice.

Until your pen became out of date.....you used it....if you had the money to buy the update, you did. Each company offered 'improvements'; even if they weren't really an improvement over a lever-sac pen. Advertizing said they were.

Even then Status was King....you had to be up-to-date....like i-Pods today.....but it took a few years....a pen stayed up to date for maybe seven years....if you didn't buy in too late in the model run.

Your out of date pen, might be given to your wife, or end up in the drawer as a check writing pen.....eventually ending forgotten for generations in the back of the drawer as Old Pen Number Three.

Olson,

you are a true enthusiast about pens. I like to hear about how people were in their past days, specially things that tell people's passion. In this case passion was about pens, teller of minds and souls. Nowadays people are proud about ....., which I do not know what is it, except that they boast about it.

Thanks.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
