Hi all, glad to be a new member of the Fountain Pen Network!

My name is Shanon and my pen obsession began as soon as I learned to write. I've always coveted a shiny, beautiful pen. Being left-handed, it has been a lifelong mission to find the perfect pen that would elevate my penmanship to that otherworldly level.

I was (and still am) a stationery store loiterer. At the age of thirteen, the shopkeepers knew me by name. I would spend many hours at the pen section doodling with the various models of pens (back when you could buy a pen from a bin, without all the packaging we have now).

My first fountain pen actually found me twenty years ago. One fine spring morning, I was walking to the stationery store to loiter, when I noticed something glinting in the snow. I ran to the store and bought cartridges for this new treasure, and I still have the pen to this day. After some research, I believe It's a Sheaffer Imperial 440.

My collection has begun in earnest now with the purchase of a new Kaweco Sport, and a Noodler's Ahab, both in black to match my Sheaffer. I love the flexy writing of the Noodler's pen and have been practicing my lettering again.

Looking forward to the discussions!

Welcome, Shannon!

I enjoy taking my time in stationery stores as well, what's left of them.

Are there stores in your area that sell fountain pens and the like?

And as a lefty, I write under the ink line, one to 4 inches depending on the pen.

Welcome. It must be 10 or 11 years since I visited Sudbury. You have beautiful country up there.

Nice to meet you Torstar! It's true, there's not much left of stationery stores anymore... the only thing left in Sudbury really is a Staples and Chapters... nowhere to doodle and try out the different models because everything is pre-packaged now... I have gratefully found Wonder Pens in Toronto that I can order from online.... but I've found that there aren't many Canadian stores that offer online shopping either....

I also write under the line! I don't know many lefties who do! My two boys are lefties and they are hooked writers... and my dad was a lefty who was forced to write with his right...

Thank you dunhamsa! It is very lovely here, although we are in the middle of a snowstorm today, so I'd much rather see spring come by very soon! :)

Welcome, Shanon !

The Sheaffer Imperial is easy to maintain, and should give good service to you and your grandchildren.

It's a great pen. Don't discard the empty cartridges. Refill them. Bottle ink is cheap. Are you a black

ink person ?

Hi Shanon

Welcome to FPN

Well, someone must have been sad he lost that Sheaffer, but perhaps if he new how happy you were with it he wouldn't have minded...

Enjoy your pens, enjoy the forum

Thanks Sasha! That's a great idea for refilling the cartridges! I never thought of that! thanks for the tip!

I lean more towards the softer grey tones, grey-blue... I like a graphite/pencil-looking ink... I've also been experimenting with colour samples and am writing with Sailor's pêche in my Ahab, and a lovely clear blue from J. Herbin in my Kaweco... What do you use most?

Haha! Thanks Wolverine1! And I do take it in the best way possible... :)

Sudbury is about 3-4 hours away from Toronto, so I'd love to meet some fellow FPNers... I will get on that list for sure! Thanks!

I confess that I've often wondered about the owner of the Sheaffer... I hope that somehow they know that the pen is a well-loved treasure... :)
