Gee, I have three bottles of the color I use every day and think that was a mistake. As someone above opined, there will always be new colors to enchant.

Is that an Eastlake cylinder desk?

Necroposting!

Probably, but it isn't signed.

Every once in a while someone comes in my office and is aghast that I actually use my antiques.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

I don't own every blue ink made yet, so I can't tell you the appropriate number.

And I was once told, even after that, just one more would be about the right amount.

I saw this today -

Use the good china every day, as today is all that matters

Buy as much as you think you'll use.

I've found that by the time I've used up my spare bottle of much-loved ink, I've found another that I love just as much if not more

(edited for punctuation, my phone somehow posts without apostrophes)

  • 2 weeks later...

I just ordered my first bottle of Edelstein Amber after reading reviews and looking at swabs. What kills me about it is that that it's the outgoing ink of the year and as such is ending production forever. I really think I'm going to love this color and am already planning on buying two more bottles so I at least have three. Already though that seems inadequate, I'm thinking of upping it to five or six bottles....

Which brings me to my question: How many bottles of LE ink do you think it's reasonable to hoard?

The answer to this question is more along the lines of how much of this ink do you realistically plan to use ie is this your ink for everyday use, or is this ink an infrequently used ink?? If you use this ink every day, and depending on the size of the bottle you can expect to run through at least a bottle per year, in which case stocking up on it is a wise move. When I was in high school I could go through a bottle of Quink every 9-12 months. An ink that is likely to no longer be made buying 10 bottles is not enough, but beware: I recently discovered that jars of ink that had rarely been used had simply evaporated -- actually the water in the ink had evaporated. I recovered the ink -- I *think* -- by simply re-hydrating with Distilled Water. If you buy say 10 bottles once they arrive ensure that the caps are snugged down tight, then get something like papaffin wax and seal the joint between the cap and the bottle with paraffin wax before you put it away. If worse comes to worse you can probably sell your excess supply on some place like eBay and make a tiny profit in the process.

I have a bad habit of falling hard for LE inks, so I like to have a couple of extra bottles on hand. Or maybe three.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
