Does Pilot Sell The Ink In Precise V5 Pens?

lectraplayer

Recommended Posts

Just inked a pen with blue ink I salvaged from a Precise V5 roller ball and thus far, it seems like a good fit for this pen. It's just barely "blacker" than BSB, otherwise just as bright and it flows optimally for me. Can I get this in a bottle?

If it isn't too bright for you, it isn't bright enough for me.

Nope. Not that I know of. There isn't a market for this ink, since these pens are not meant to be refillable. Hacking apart pens `isn't a viable option financially speaking either.

IF it isn't viable, there sure are a lot of people doing it. lt's extremely easy too. Most people report savings over buying new pens. All I care about right now is that the ink from one works extremely well in my fountain pens. I bet that if Pilot tried the formula on the bottled ink market, and people found it, it would sell.

What is viable? Pulling ink from a V5, and using it in a FP, or refilling a V5? Pulling ink out is not economically sound. At $15 a set of 12 pens, that's 15 dollars for about 24-36 ml worth of ink. I can see refilling them would be saving money... but the opposite would be a waste.... Who is pulling V5 ink for fountain pens? I've certainly never heard of anyone other than you doing this...

Pilot produce a cartridge version of the V5 and V7, the cartridges are the same size as the standard FP cartridges... not sure that I would want to put them in my pilot fountain pens though.

While I didn't buy the pens for the ink, I recovered the ink from one when the barrel was damaged in a crash with the floor. Instead of wasting it, I decided to use it in another (Sheffer) pen. Here we go...

The cartridge V5/V7 certainly looks neat. Cartridge looks the same as my Parallel Pen. ...speaking of which, where IS my Parallel Pen?

Not exactly. I refill my V-5s 2-3x with regular fp ink. Put the pen in nearly boiling water, once the pen is hot, dip it needle point down into the room temperature ink. Like magic the ink fills the reservior and you can write again.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Have you tried the pilot/namiki blue ink. It's beautiful and has great flow.

Can you give me a comparason of Pilot/Namiki Blue by Noobler's Baystate Blue? I can replicate and see if the V5 ink is the same ink as Pilot/Namiki.

BTW, thank you! I may end up spending money on these. The V10 and the Precise Grip Bold are my very favorite rollerball pens.

Okay, this took me a while. I pulled out BSB, Namiki Blue, S.T. Dupont Blue, the V10 Blue, a V5 Blue, and a Pilot Varsity. If you are trying to replace BSB, you won't be happy. The scans are below, and a picture or two. I don't think they really show how vibrant (retinal searing), BSB is in person. When on the same page, the other colors look flat. Be sure to check out my webpage for the other images so that I don't bore the other people.

It looks pretty close. I may have to pick me up some Manhattan Blue. This may become my new favorite blue. :)

Albeit I pulled more air than ink into my converter when I loaded the BSB. Both are actually smooth inks but the Pilot ink is much smoother for me.

Nice, I'd really like to get one because I've been looking for a refillable rollerball and if they take regular carts they might take regular converters (now to find out if they're sold anywhere outside the UK).

EDIT: Looks like pokydaddy and ssquare_gifts both sell these on eBay (is there any cheap Pilot pen they don't sell?), it's going in my cart for the next time I make an eBay order.

Looking at the Cult Pens experiments (at http://www.cultpens.com/blog/pilot-v5v7-cartridge-system-experiments/) it seems like the Pilot ink has a bit more wetting agent to it so it flows better (this would give a smoother feel), so adding a tiny drop of glycerine or Kodak PhotoFlo (detergent also works) might help with regaining the smooth feel.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
