A Review Of The Harley Davidson Pen From Waterman

This is my first review here and I thought I would do a hand-written one. Unfortunately, my scanner has broken down and the images below are snaps taken with my mobile phone camera. A couple of the close-up pen shots were taken with my Nikon D-SLR and a Macro lens.

 

I struggle to give marks, and have restricted myself to giving stars (3 stars being the best).

There were three (that I know of) models of Waterman sold with the Harley-Davidson branding. One was called the Free Wheel which was basically a Kultur, and came in five different graphics (two different colors of Flames, Racing II, Flags, and Eagle). The second was based on the same feed/nib as a Kultur or Phileas, but a different body and section; the cap was shaped to look like a cylinder head with a laquered brass body, and is called Horizon. It came in at least five different colors. As far as I can tell, both the Horizon and Free Wheel only came with Medium nibs.

 

FWIW, I have two Free Wheels and one Horizon. They were very cheap for quite a while after they were discontinued.

 

The one you have is here is by far the nicest and most expensive, and the model is called the Combustion. I'm sure it is based on one of the higher end Waterman models, but I don't know the Waterman line well enough to know which one.

 

[edit: changed number of different Free Wheel designs and known number of Horizon colors based on Captain Changs' descriptions. However, the Free Wheel pens do not have the brass barrel insert like a Phileas despite him including them in his Phileas section.]

As a harley rider I actually quite like it. It's sort of understated with only a few nods at the bikes. I've seen the other ones with the flames and that, but I didn't like them at all.

Nice review. I got news that my Harley freewheel model is just around the corner, so I am pretty excited.

I own the combustion (F), but I have no idea it was based on which model.

Nice review. And, as others said, you have good handwriting.

 

The Waterman Harleys are very nice pens. I own two of them, your Combustion and the Horizon (in red) , which comes in a tank-shaped box.
