Wahl Eversharp Patented Gold Filled Pencil

I am wondering if there are some vintage mechanical pencil collectors who could possibly give me some information on this pencil I have. On the gold below the cap it says "WAHL EVERSHARP Patented Gold Filled" and that is the only marking I see other than the engraving and cap that could help identify it. Also I am posting a picture of the tip. There seems to be a notch in it which does not appear to be an accident. Any idea what this could be for? Also if it is gold filled would I be correct to assume the gold on the cap wore off? I am amazed it still has the original eraser although worn to the metal rim.

Hello, what you have is a Wahl Eversharp pencil made between 1917 (when Wahl started making the Ever Sharp pencils on its own account) and 1924 (when a rib was added to the clip for stability, the length of the the tip was extended and the lead magazine was redesigned.

Since these are readily available, someone took it upon themselves to replace the matching gold filled cap that should be there with what appears to be a silver plated one.

As for the tip, it is damaged.

Any idea which size lead? I am also confused as to how to load it.
