Best Greenish Blue-Black

Recommended Posts

So I'm looking for a new blue-black ink. I really like the blue-blacks that lean a bit green. I also like a lot of shading and something that works in a flex nib. I have a bottle of PR Ebony Blue and love it, but I was wanting something a little more blue. Some water-resistance would be nice, but not essential. I really like the looks of Noodlers Navy, Bad Blue Heron, and Blue-Black. Sailor Sei-Boku looks amazing, but I'm not willing to spend quite that much. Anybody with experience with these inks have any suggestions? Should I consider any others? Thanks.

Quink's and Waterman's Blue-Blacks (as often said, maybe the same ink). Not very saturated. The only other things which come to mind at the moment are OS's Nitrogen, and N's Legal Lapis.

Check out "teals".

Waterman's definitely runs on the green side. Not when wet but certainly when dry.

Noodler's Navy is a lot more blue than Ebony Blue, and more blue / teal than blue-black, but it's a great ink! Noodler's Blue-Black is very similar to Ebony Blue, but it is slightly bluer. Navy flows a bit better than Blue-Black does, but Blue-Black is quite nice too, and does have a bit of shading, although not as much as Navy. Also similar to Navy is De Atramentis Steel Blue, which is awesome, but if you're looking for some water resistance, Steel Blue will probably not be your best bet.

odd_soul, thanks for the info on the Noodler's ink and the head's up on DA Steel Blue. More reviews to check out!

To all the suggestions about Aircorp Blue Black, which I do like the look of, it seems a bit greener than even Ebony Blue and I was hoping for something a bit bluer. But maybe I'm mistaken.

Watermen looks a little washed out to me. I kind of like inks with a little pop. But again maybe I'm mistaken.

Noodler's Ellis Island is a dark dark dark ink. It has some blue and some gray.

Dromgoole / Noodler's Blue Steel is however my very favorite.

Coral Sea Blue - not available in the US but in Australia is stunning and a good performer.

Alas, Pilot / Iro Tsuki-yo is NOT water resistant at all.

Oh, and this is the Sailor Blue Black that you asked about earlier that you thought might be too pricey.

I'm thinking you may like De Atramenis jeans blue or Midnight Blue. Both tend toward green. I'm starting to love this brand of ink.

Surprised no one has mentioned Diamine Twilight. Not waterproof but a fantastic, shaded blue black with a hint of green lurking.

Organics Studio Aristotle dries to a really nice Montblanc Racing Green sort of green. Unfortunately I have contacted Organics Studio and they have told me that the newest batch will be more blue. Get a bottle now. Awesome color.

My sample of Diamine Graphite is more what I would call a grey teal green. I'm ordering next.

+1 for both Noodler's Air Corp and Legal Lapis. Also look at Noodler's 54th Mass. I like Legal Lapis better than 54th for flow but one leans more green the other bluer to my eye.

My inks never look like the swatches but looking at a place like Goulets will give you an idea and maybe reference one to the other.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Parker Quink Blue/Black. One of the chief complaints about the ink is that it dries to a greenish hue, but if you are looking for a greenish blue/black ink then this might be a good option for you.
