Pw Akkerman New Smaller Size

It's interesting as, after I commented on the price, most of the Geeks were appalled that I make any comment about it as most are oh-so-happy to be able to get a smaller bottle. No one over there was concerned with the price jump.

I'd rather the large bottle so I can give half away to a friend.

I won't speak for "most of the Geeks" as you seem happy to, but for myself: well, yeah, there was a price increase. You want a bunch of ink to give away half, I'd like that particular kind of bottle and ever since seeing the first ones said "why can't they offer it in a smaller, more pragmatic size".

Because I'd like to have that bottle for an ink I use a lot, but I'm certain that the big bottle is way too much ink, and too big a bottle for my needs. So there is an explanation from just one person about why I didn't register any concern. Okey-dokey?

ETA: I just went and took a look. Precisely zero people were appalled at your comments. In fact, you were even complimented on the concept of sharing some. All I see is people who have a similar bent as me: the inks are ok, but the bottle is the cool part, and I'm much happier with a practical, smaller size.

YMMV, but try to be a bit more accurate when portraying the conversations. There's been enough acrimony at times in the past, let's not foster more.

Hmm, I've wondered over to the web site. Perhaps it would be helpful to reference the actual web page where the price is posted? As I cannot find it here or here

For me it is the bottle first and as the original offering was too large to be practical or useful, I am willing to pay a price for some of the smaller ones when available. Of course, by purchasing bottles containing inks that I think are attractive and that I would use for writing.

I spoke partially in jest but the basics are as I saw them. I was, also, not under oath.

I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes. I love this ink and use it all the time. It just seemed to me that the 'cute bottle' was more important than the fact the ink more than doubled in price. Ouch!

Loosen up your wig, Jon. It's only ink. No one is going to take your FPGeeks crown away.

Well, that wasn't exactly the point, but kneel down, knave. ;)

My guess is that the smaller bottles (not including ink) cost about as much to produce as the larger ones - the amount of glass in them is probably not a factor, but they are rather complex, and nobody else will be buying them from the bottle maker, so they are bound to be expensive. This might be why Akkerman started with the large bottles to begin with, thinking they had to include more ink or nobody would spring for the bottle.

I like the idea of smaller bottles in theory, however if the price quoted on FPG is correct, I won't be buying them. There is clearly a significant increase in the price of the ink per ml in comparison with the bigger bottles.

Direct from Paul Rutte after I sent an email enquiry -

"The new bottles will be 15 euros including VAT
Outside of Europe it will be about € 12,40
As for shipping we wil be able to put at least 5 bottles in one carton (shipping € 20,-)
This makes the bottles overseas a lot more pleasant priced."
For the vat free crowd (in dollars) -
Each bottle is approx $16.90
Shipping for 5/6 bottles is approx. $27.00
Group buy? Buy six bottles and get them for approx. $21.50 each!

Thanks for this new information. Thusly, an update of a previous post:

How 'bout a quickie? Prices in Euros per ml incl. 19% German sales tax... For a feeling of relativity these days...

New CdA.........0.58

Iroshi......... 0.48

New Akkerman... 0.25, assuming 60 ml; 62 ml makes it 0.24

MB............. 0.22

R&K............ 0.12

Old Akkerman... 0.11

Still, more than twice as expensive (milliliter-wise) as the biggies.

Ah, this news is happy! I, for one, am in for a group buy. How does that happen, and is there anything I can do to help?

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

Well I'm in UK, and I think the increase in cost of ink sold in the smaller bottles is disgraceful.

Last month I bought 3 of the larger bottles:

3 x 150 ml at 16.50 euros incl VAT

plus 14.50 euros shipping to UK = 450ml at 64 euros

0.14 per ml

5 x 60ml at 15.00 euros incl VAT

plus 20.0 (?) euros shipping to UK = 300ml at 95 euros

0.32 per ml

And people think this is a good idea and can't wait to buy the smaller bottle? Well not me! Their inks aren't that special or different. I can live without them.

WOW! Almost the same price for about 1/3 of ink! That is..... :o
I was soo excited.
I can understand that the smaller bottle would cost the same to make as the big ones, but than the ink must be very cheap if the 60% less liquid doesn't show in the price. :P

I have to admit, that I still want to try one or two colors, but seriously....

In the old giant bottles, the ink was about as cheap, ml-wise, as ordinary Pelikan ink. Now, it is a little more expensive than Montblanc ink, but still in an extravagant bottle. I think, the new price is okay. If you wouldn't know about the old one, you wouldn't complain.

And, Mister Boll, there is no need of screaming in bold red letters, just because other people are not reading all fountain pen forums there are.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
