Hello. Hope all are well. I bought (too quickly) the Pelikan Edelstein Amber "2013 Ink of the Year" Mostly based on the Edelstein name along with Ink of the Year thrown in... I've tried again and again, but just do not like the ink. My fault though. Impulse purchase. Farheny's won't exchange it for a credit (they do have their policy) and my last resort is to go straight to the source. Cannot find their address for Pelikan or Edelstein anywhere. If anyone has this info, please share...Thank you, Leroy P.S. A very good ink, but the color isn't very unique and have others too similar...LWL

Post a few scans or pics of the ink + writing samples? Based on initial Googling, I may be interested in purchasing.

 

That's the nice thing about playing with fountain pens: if something isn't your type, there's likely to be someone out there willing to take it off your hands :)

I don't think that anyone will exchange it once it's been opened. I think you will just have to sell it to someone else if you don't like it, and chalk it up to experience.

Very funny idea to ask the manufacturer to get a refund because you do not like the color :)

 

The manufacturer neither has a contract with you nor the product was faulty.

What do you expect the shop or manufacturer should do with an already opened bottle?

 

The manufacturer would not even take a untouched bottle back, they have no contract with you, they did not sell it to you.

 

My recommendation, if you don't like it, try to sell it or even better make a gift out of it for somebody who might enjoy the color.

There is also PIF thread, I'm sure somebody will enjoy it.

I'm sorry Pelikan sold you a color you didn't like. Why don't you contact Pelikan Hannover? They'll be willing to help you with the refund or a replacement.

Very much agreed. If I was personally going to spend £13+ on an ink I would buy a small sample first to make sure I like it enough to warrant spending £13. I wouldn't expect anyone to take it back as the product has to be in the original condition to warrant a refund and if the seller was to sell on your bottle they would only get a fraction of what they were originally selling it for back.

I have a couple of bottles I don't like; it would never occur to me to ask for a refund. Accept the mistake, pass the ink to someone else, (perhaps do a PIF), and move on.

Let's say the ink is not faulty in the sense that it is covered with SITB or a lot of it has precipitated. I've never heard of a store which would give you your money back for an opened bottle. The list price here of 13.90 Euros is no reason to regret. (Mine costed 11.90 and I love it.) Just be happy that you didn't wreck a pen for 100+ and then want to take it back. Funny thing is, I did do this once because I ended up not liking the pen (it was easy to see that I hadn't wrecked it.) . So I cleaned the 146 and took it back and exchanded it for another pen. But ink being a consumption product means that they (the store or the manufacturer) won't take it back. If the pen had had an accident, it could be repaired, but not the ink...

a little more fun to be around. I wonder whether you will like it better, on another color paper. If you decide

against selling it for the few pounds that a "used" bottle of ink brings, it can become an ink with which to

experiment. What ARE your favorite ink colors ?

 

What change(s) in the color would make this ink more pleasant to your eye ? This is the place to ask..

+1 The OP also said it is a nice ink but they have too many similar colors. That certainly isn't Farheny's or Pelikan's issue. I've bought a few inks that didn't work out as well. The best thing to do is either sell them to recoup some of the funds or gift them.

Couple of things you might try....

 

Wait. After not using it for a while and coming back to it, it might change how you feel about it.

 

Try with a different nib. I have Noodler's Apache Sunset and like it in most nibs I have from EF to B - Something about it with my Lamy 1.1 mm I just don't like.

 

PIF a couple of samples or the whole bottle

 

Sell what you have left....

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
