I've used WH Smith's quarto paper which works ok & you can get a matching set of envelopes.

 

The paper is plain, but works with my medium & fine FPs.

I have found Conqueror paper in Wove texture to be very good (or laid if you prefer) and Conqueror Bamboo. Both cost £25-30 a ream, which is about £0.06 a sheet. You can pick up some very good deals on ebay for 50 sheets and envelopes at a time.

 

The only Conqueror paper to be avoided is Connoisseur which, despite being 100% cotton, feathers and bleeds like cheap copy paper.

I would recommend Basildon Bond. Even their airmail paper is fountainpen friendly though I use only fine or italic nibs so cannot say if they would withstand larger nibs/more ink. You can get this paper quite cheaply online or in WHSMiths or Rymans for example in all types of sizes and colours. Each time I go to England I bring back a little selection. Also Clairefontaine Triomphe is very good paper too.

Clairefontaine Triomphe (around £2.05 for 50 sheets of A5). A lovely smooth 90 gsm paper, available plain or lined; perfect for fountain pens.

Another vote for Basildon Bond. The cream finish is particularly nice and the paper and matching envelopes are readily available and reasonably priced.

I think you'll be pleased with this paper. Here are a couple of photos I took today to show the finish.

The paper looks like it should be toothy but even my quite scratchy and mis-adjusted fine 1980s M400 nib runs smooth on the Basildon.

Dear my63 at Tyneside,

 

Add my vote for Basildon Bond. I have used all the great papers over the years, some costing much more, & Basildon Bond is still my favorite. I stock up every time I cross the pond. Their web-site says it is made for fountain pens.

I've tried at least 20 different papers over the last two months. I can honestly say that THE VERY BEST is staples 120gsm, and if you tolerate a slighly heavier weight the 160gsm from staples as well. I've been on a bit of a quest lately, and I've tried HP colour laser 100 and 120gsm, Claifontaine DCP 100 and 120 gsm, conqueror, Mondi colour laser 100 gsm, 120gsm, and 160gsm. I've compared smoothness to both Rhodia and the Clairfontaine triomphe, and the Staples colour laser 120gsm and 160gsm performed as well if not better. It's also incredibly good value, with 250 sheets costing between £6.5-£7.5 depending on the weight you choose.

 

The Staples100gsm was not particularly good so don't bother with it..

From what I hear, no it isn't available in the US. I've sent some to an FPN-er recently as he can't get hold of it. Goulets were looking to stock at one time but still don't.

 

I've got a PIF going at the moment, offering a small (Duke No 2 size) pale blue writing pad + envelopes. Lots of interest from Stateside.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
