Hello Everyone.

I was wondering if any of the Australian members here know of pen shops in Sydney City (N.S.W.) ???

A flea market will be interesting too.

I will travel to Sydney next February 2014.

Can anyone help out ?

Best Regards,
René from Chile.

:)

Hey Rene,

This is one of the only ones I know of, since I havn't really done much in-store buying.

http://www.yelp.com.au/biz/pen-ultimate-sydney (Pen-Ultimate)

As for shops like antiques or flea markets, you could try google. I'm sure there would be plenty of treasure-troves, though bear in mind, Australia isn't exactly flooded with FP's (since most of them are US made).

Good luck down under, hopefully the weather will be less... evil... when you get here :P

And also, skip Bondi beach. Plenty of other, less crowded beaches out there.

Hello Rene,

I second the Pen Ultimate store! Their display window houses a lot of expensive-looking pens (I've never been inside, always passing by).

You could also try Dymocks stationery (http://www.yelp.com.au/biz/dymocks-stationery-superstore-sydney). They sell pens and well, stationery :D They have a corner of expensive-looking pens and a lamy corner too!

Both of these stores are located in TownHall so take a train to that station and walk/ask around!

Good luck!

I'm sure somewhere, I once found a thread on here that listed by country and by city Brick and Mortar pen shops, plus markets etc where you might find pens. They were mainly American - presumably because that's where the compiler came from and knew most about, but it also contained lots of international citiies.

I haven't beeen able to find the thread, though I have looked a few times. Perhaps someone else can find it and stick up a link.

If it can't be found, maybe someone who has the time (I wish!) might like to compile a new list that can be pinned. I'd imagine it would be a fun thing to do, but quite time consuming. Certainly it would be incredibly useful and much appreciated by many on here.

As far as I am aware, Pen-Ultimate is part of the Pens De Luxe Group. We have one of the stores here in Perth (T.Sharp) and while they certainly have a wide range of pens, the prices can often be VERY steep, we're talking $300 for a Lamy 2000. Definitely check out the website and have a browse:

The are three Pens De Luxe shops in Sydney, one in the QVB, one near Chifley Square, and one in North Sydney, over the Bridge.

As said above, their prices are about double what you can pay online.

There used to be The Pen Shop in O'Connell St, but that has closed down, and is now Online only.

W.C. Penfolds used to sell a reasonable range of pens, but I haven't been in since they were taken over by City Stationers.

There is a funny little shop called Campo Marzio Design in the bowels of the QVB that sells Italian designed pens.

there is pen ultimate, qvb and north sydney, i personally live in north sydney so by the odd bit of ink etc from them, but they are simply too expensive. there is also dymocks, peters of kensington, and kinokuniya (40 dollar iroshizuku)

rhodia from dymocks stationary is the best bet. that is really about it

Last time I was in Sydney I went to Pen Ultimate in the Queen Victoria Buildings and I have to agree with those who say the prices were high. Partly that must be down to the $/£ exchange rate last year but even so... Lovely to browse around as the QVB inside is a must see, but I didn't buy anything.

Yes, Sharps is very expensive. I don't think Australia is the place to pick up pen bargains (actually it's not just pens)

Look at the price of a Parker Premier.

I only have two pens - an Aurora Optima and others.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
