I Need A Blue Recommendation...

Ditto on the dry time. I love DCSSB, beautiful color, but it takes a long time toddy, and I keep a full page interleaf in my journal just to be sure it doesn't print onto the facing pages.

Private Reserve has a lot of beautiful blue ink but the time to dry is long as you say and they are wet inks. This has made me use blotting paper, but unfortunately that is not easy to find these days. I have tried to dilute PR ink with water and it has worked well.

Private Reserve Midnight Blues is very dark, very mysterious. Diamine Royal Blue is nice and blue. You want trouble, you're not scared? - get some Penman Sapphire.

Is that even still available at this point?

I remember when Diamine Sargasso Sea was released, and everyone was thinking it was the *new* PPS. Only maybe not so much -- I keep thinking I should give it another shot, since I bought a full bottle of it -- then I remember how cloggy it got (I wasn't around for the PPS days, so I can't give the pros and cons -- only that there was some discussion awhile back as to whether there was some counterfeit stuff on the market).

Yes, blotting paper is becoming rare and pricy. I just use a fairly lightweight card stock. [unfortunately] I use a lot of paper in my work, and I have clients who demand certain products in the reports I submit; because I have to use legal size for most, but not all of my report packages, I get some items in legal only. Then, when I do need the same thing in letter size, I just cut it down to size; the leftover 3" X 8.5" strips come in handy for scratch paper and blotting (not as fast as soft, traditional blotting paper, but works well when left between pages). Occasionally, often enough to keep me supplied, I have larger sheets from which I can make an interleaf that covers a whole page in my journal; this serves as both page place keeper and blotter.

I am also a fan of blue ink & have been enjoying using the Pelikan Edelstein Sapphire of late. This is a different shade of blue to the classic colours but still perfectly suitable for daily use.

Noodler's Blue
Noodler's Ottoman Azure
Private Reserve Lake Placid Blue
Waterman Florida/Serenity Blue
Pilot Blue (water resistant)
Visconti Blue
Iroshizuku Asa-gao
Wancher Imari Blue
Diamine ASA Blue
Diamine Royal Blue
Diamine Imperial Blue
Diamine WES Kensington Blue
Sheaffer Skrip Blue

The only really expensive one there is Asa-Gao.

Pilot Blue is surprisingly water resistant for a standard dye-based blue.

Wancher Imari blue is a very rich blue that is highly lubricating. Recommended for difficult or fine-nibbed pens that dry out in the nib quickly.

Noodler's Blue is not recommended nearly enough. It is a standard blue, very close, but not identical, to Parker Penman Sapphire, that generally behaves very well.

Waterman's Blue is generally excellent on poor quality papers, especially when used in a dryish nib.

PR Lake Placid Blue is a bit lighter than PR DC SS Blue and PR American Blue, and can look very attractive, but like all the PR inks, can feather and bleed on lesser papers.

Hi,

Regarding the long smear / dry times with PR DC Supershow Blue, I was pleased to find the current production ink that I sampled had improved considerably.

Those results are at Reply № 34 within my Review of that ink https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/160374-private-reserve-d-c-supershow-blue/page__view__findpost__p__2589621

Bye,

So many good suggestions. I think I will have a go with Noodlers Liberty Elysium and Private Reserve DC Supershow Blue. And maybe a turquoise...Thank you very much.

oh and liberties elysium, it is basically a cheaper, nastier, higher maintenance version of visconti blue

however it is a slightly more water resistant ink, but not water proof such as 54th massacheusets

Hmm.... I can't believe I haven't posted pictures.

I love blue inks. What properties are you looking for? Is shade important? Be sure to look at review.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Well I like noodlers turquoise because its not as bright as conventional turquoise s . Also noodlers navy is great.

Diamond majestic blue is very sweet because of the red sheen.

Noodlers libertys Elysium (Goulet exclusive) is really nice color. You can watch Mr. Sbre brown`s review or gouletpens review on YouTube.

Although I'm not affiliated with them, the Goulet family at gouletpens.com have done a great job with their swabs and stuff all around. From customer service to shipping.

Happy New Year!

Visconti Blue. I received a bottle at Christmas and it has totally converted me to using the colour blue in pens again.

I now have it in my Pelikan M30 and it glides across the page leaving really easy on the eye writing.
