Put it in a ziploc bag or a similar plastic bag. If you have ink left over to write then it is not evaporation. If you have a bag full of ink then...

One possibility is that you are not getting the cartridge or converter fully seated on the nipple. They fit very tightly and are hard to get all the way down, but it's important to do so. If it's not all the way down, the overall length of the nib section plus cartridge (or nib section plus converter) is just a bit longer than it should be. This results in the nib not retracting fully and the door which is supposed to seal the opening won't quite close. Thus the fast evaporation. Try refilling and reseating the cartridge/converter and making sure it's really all the way down, then repeat your evaporation test.

 

I know that will make it very difficult to remove the cartridge/converter later, but that's the way the parts are designed to work.

BOOM. sexauerw nailed it. The converter wasn't fully seated, and I think the nib wasn't retracting perfectly. That + Utah winter = crazy evaporation.
