Fountain Pen Lovers With Bad Handwriting

I've come to realize that the key to improvement is practicing consistent letter spacing and letter formations (e.g., f's all being the same height and width, s's being the same height as e's, etc.). I just need to devote the time to practicing...

When I'm writing fast, my handwriting becomes so illegible that a couple people have asked what language I'm writing in! But before I started using fountain pens regularly, my hand would also cramp up when writing – and I don't have that problem with fountain pens, where you aren't pressing down.

My hand writing is somewhere between poor and pretty awful. BUT writing with FP's allows me to dream of what it could be. I see some of the writing on here and, whilst I know it will never happen, there is something that taps away at the back of my head saying there is a chance, one day Toto...... Of course, this allows me to keep searching for the perfect pen/ink combination that will catapult me to my writing nirvana.

In the meantime, I simply enjoy the combination of pen, nib, ink and paper. Plus, I do believe my writing is improving and the pleasure I get encourages me to write more. Which, in itself, can't be a bad thing, no?

I am glad I not alone. I have been on FPN and back into fountain pens for a short period of time as well. I have learned so much on this forum. My handwriting is much better than it was a year ago but no where near where I want it to be. The key I have learned is practice and more practice. I bought two books on calligraphy and try to practice every day at least a little. I have integrated some elements of calligraphy into my handwriting and my cursive is getting better. I know I want to write like those here who have beautiful writing but not for quite a while so I will continue to practice...

I have the worst handwriting in the world. I had problems with my professors, my family kindly asks me not to send them Christmas and birthday cards and when I was re-reading my last journal I couldn't decipher 50% of the words. Once I left a post-it for my husband asking him to buy potatoes and carrots and he brought home sugar and pepper.

My handwriting is terrible. As others have said, FPs seem to improve it a lot.

I write with FPs because they please me. They're functional and often beautiful well engineered objects of lasting value (to me) which remind me to slooooow dooooown.

I also like freaking out my coworkers (mostly bionerds like me).

Some of the FPN members have glorious handwriting. They work hard at it. It seems not so much a gift, as an accomplishment. The handwriting is beautiful, humbling, and inspiring (You know who you are.)

I have enjoyed a decades-long love of fountain pens. My handwriting is tidier after fifty-five years,.but not much differennt that the cursive taught to me in forth grade.

I don't expect a fountain pen enthusiast to have good handwriting. I do, however, expect them to enjoy writing.

I understand Annie, I went to college the first time in the days before computers. My first essay in English101 was 750 words. Since you could either type it or write it I chose to write it since I did not have a typewriter at home. He gave me an F and said he would not and could not read it. If I typed it he would regrade it and all further papers were to be typed. I had to go out that day to buy a typewriter. I bought a little portable Royal for those of you who can remember them.

yeah. i'm one of them. in my defense, my handwriting has gotten better i think since i first used a fountain pen, BUT that doesn't mean my penmanship is something to be boast about. i still have a LONG way to go, judging from the many beautiful penmanships i've seen here on FPN. i have tried to write using a regular pen once in a while, but my hand just keeps resisting and complaining. so yes, i still love using a fountain pen. and i won't give it up.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
