Online Germany - Royal Blue Review

congo

Recommended Posts

As my first post here, I would like to review one of the inks, which can be bought in the Online Kombipatrone. I think the product is well known among LAMY users, who still use cartridges - this is the two sided cartridge with one LAMY/Parker and one standard international end. It fits in most pens which take standard international large cartridges, and in my country it is much cheaper than LAMY ones.

I could not find any reviews on it in the review index, so I decided to post one. I was a bit hesitant to do such thing as a newbie, no fancy monitor calibrating stuff, etc. I hope someone will find it useful. :D

Please forgive my penmanship. I started using fountain pens not very long ago to improve it... :)

All comments are welcome!

EDIT: You can view the full size review here.

Thank you for this one  Never heard of the Kombipatrone before - intriguing concept! Do they do other combinations?

Hello cybaea,

I have not seen any other types yet, but the store where I bought them does not have all of the Online Pens' products in stock.

As far as I know they only produce "Pelikan" and "Lamy" combination - those are almost the only two cartridge pen companies the German mass market is interested in (and that's where their main profit is). So there's no Pilot, Platinum,...

The best thing about those Online-Kombipatrone is that they also fit into the old Geha fountain pens. They made wonderful nibs for a good price, but had another proprietary system and went out of business. So it's difficult to use their cartridge pens, but Online (unknowingly) provided a solution, because Lamy cartridges don't fit, but their Lamyside does...

Thank you for the review. I've made a similar experience: the color is (in my opinion) not noteworthy, the best I can say about this ink is its good drying time. The brown color is really nice!

They also sell in in 15ml bottles.

Greetings,

Michael

If I am not wrong Monteverde cartridges have two kind of "mouth" in the same cartridge...(Standard Europena and Lamy)

René.

mirosc,

Thanks for the useful comments. I will probably also try the brown one then, because I really like brown inks.

I did not find the bottled version yet, but the shop carries some cheapo noname ink, in litre sized plastic bottles. :D

René,

Thanks for mentioning Monteverde. I have been trying to locate Monteverde products in my country, but so far have not succeeded.

Their inks seem much more promising than the Online ones though.

I have found the Lamy/Parker end of the Lamy cart leaks in the Gehas.

Is the Online cartridge a better fit then?

Pity they never made a converter for the pens.

Thanks for the review. I have only used the small Pelikan length online cartridges.

Just for your information: http://www.lord-pen.de/online-tintenglas-15ml/zubehoer/a-1809/

That's what you are looking for. (Never heard of that shop or even bought from them, just the first search result)

Yes it is. I've never tried the Online cartridge in a Lamy, but they work for my Gehas.

Greetings,

Michael

The price seems expensive for 15ml of ink by German standards.

I'll get some and give it a try then.

The only problem with the Gehas is the cheap plastic body. having 2 Geha carts in the barrel stresses it too much. Also the original carts aren't easy to find any more at a decent price.

I had a bottle of Online ink - this color - it faded quickly and washed away with the slightest showing of moisture. However, it never clogged a pen. :) Thanks for the review.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

1990 Pelikan under the new Malayan ownership, bought up the Geha Pen division and shut it down. It was comp for Pelikan school pens. Cartridges was and is big money.

That opened up the way for the Safari.

Geha didn't go out of business, it was put out of business.

Geha was the first German cartridge pen.

I've stayed away from the old Geha cartridge pens, in I have only a couple cartridges.

I had heard the Lamy worked....sorry to hear it didn't.

Glad the Online does.

I have 5 Geha piston pens.

  • 2 years later...

I did purchase a bottle of this ink in a brick and mortar store but had to return it as I have noticed (unfortunately only) at home that the royal blue is more like rotten green-brown :D They have taken it back and have given me a new bottle with no questions....

However the ink itself is rather boring: very light in colour and the colour itself is also not very exciting. The small 15ml bottle on the other end is handy to carry around in your bag.

I have all 6 colours in those 15-ml bottles and find them all boring. Sorry. As you say, the bottles are good for the pocket, but a 15-ml Nalgene bottle is even better!
