The second complication was the death of my dear son, who had in fact commented earlier in this thread. I just haven't been on top of things since.

Masque, I am so sorry to read that your son passed.

Is there anything I can do to help? I'm also in Portland.

If you want to help pack this all for shipping, or help me figure out where to get appropriate shipping boxes, that would be a great help.

Also Ive made progress on that blue black. Its not perfect though. But I have an idea for the next batch.

Could we have a mini-work party at the next Portland meetup? (October 29th, I believe.) I'd be happy to help pack for a chance to buy a bottle.

As for shipping boxes, I have no ideas.

For free shipping boxes just make a run down to your friendly neighborhood US Post Office. Somewhere in the corner are various sizes of Priority Mail shipping boxes (stored flat, you have to put it together.) You will, of course, have to send the ink off via Priority Mail but the cost is pretty close to shipping by First Class, and you get the benefit of tracking and $50 of insurance included with Priority.

All the Best.

You get tracking with First Class, too.

Go to an office supply store and buy a bunch of small boxes. It'll be way cheaper than shipping flat rate, since a single bottle of ink isn't that heavy. Shouldn't cost more than $5 per box, shipping included.

Heard back from Luxury Brands USA (Noodler's Distributor). They're very interested and are passing this thread on to Nathan.

Nice.

I hope Nathan likes it. I wonder if he'll reach out to me.

I'm sure he will - seems like his kind of ink. I'll bet you'll hear from him. Maybe after he gets this whole safety pen thing sorted out, sounds like getting that straightened away is taking up a lot of his time at the moment

This could be one of their best inks, ever.

Masque, like so many, I continue to send love and prayers to you and your family. Please know, we keep you in our hearts.

Watching this thread with anticipation. I love the shading and the color range of this mixture (staying on the blue side rather than green). Thanks for the hard work!

Just found this thread looking thought ink recipes.

A status report?

Since I’m missing the Manhattan Black may try the other version of turq/yellow and black.

Anyone try it with Zhivago? May not be black enough but think it has the yellow part

I've heard nothing more from the Noodler's folks.

No promises on mixing any up myself but I will put together a plan and figure out the logistics.

I've been trying to find a vendor that has Old Manhattan Blackest Black... no luck yet. Does anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks so much! That explains why I couldn't find it. I didn't know it was an exclusive ink.

And I'm not embarrassed to say (as you can see by the number of posts I have, I'm pretty new to fountain pens)... I didn't know about the Fountain Pen Hospital. So, this was great information.

thanks again,

I love the looks of this mix and am going to attempt to mix a batch myself . If Noodlers decides to do this ,what is the chance , given past record for inks being different from batch to batch , that they will produce a match that is reliable ?

Saw this topic and loved the ink...have all three required components. Did this thing just die or whatever happened? Anyone?

Unfortunately Masque hasn't been here since 2019... but Fountain Pen Hospital just got back to me and said they're gonna be carrying Old Manhattan again! They told me they'll probably have it in stock, available on their website by the end of next week! I, for one, will be buying a bottle immediately to mix my own!

I bought a bottle of Old Manhattan a few years ago, on a trip to NYC which included going to Fountain Pen Hospital -- but I wasn't that enthralled with it.  Yes, it's what someone on here referred to as "black-ity black", but I think part of the reason it looks so black on the page is something of an optical illusion -- I found that the ink tended to spread on most of the paper I tried it on.  So haven't used it in a long time (I prefer Noodler's Heart of Darkness, which is black enough for my purposes -- and dried faster than the "regular" Noodler's Black).  Although of course, since there is some variation between ink batches (Nathan Tardif calls that a "feature") I don't know how much has changed between when I bought the various inks and now -- especially since I don't use black ink much in general.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
