Organics Studios - Aristotle - Iron Gall - Informal Review

Still waiting for my bottle to arrive. But I'd guess that either the water is prompting an oxidation effect or it's washing some of the surface dyes away, leaving the iron gall.

Wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this ink getting darker after it's soaked in water? I have been doing soak tests and I swear the color becomes darker with a good soak. Is this a sign of failing eyes or has anyone else experienced this. I have never seen an ink do this before.

I'll go soak one of mine and scan it tomorrow after it dries. Then we can see (in large digital jpg).

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I picked up a bottle of this ink, and it's pretty fascinating to watch it change color. It was so fascinating that I had to use the USB microscope to make a video of the behavior. The paper is a Field Notes Local Ales, the first ink is Mont Blanc Royal Blue, and the second ink is Aristotle.

I hope everyone enjoys it!

Has anyone noticed that it seems kind of watery without much lubrication? Anyway, that was my experience with it so far.

I find all the IG inks to be dry writers.

I find montblanc midnight blue iron gall to be far more lubricating. It's a noticeable difference compared to the Aristotle. Yes I agree iron gall in general are dry inks but there definitely is variation within the group.

Interesting. I find my two bottles of Aristotle to both flow better and offer more lubrication than my bottle of mb/mb.

That's puzzling to me too. Fountain pens and ink can be a bit of a mystery sometimes no matter how carefully we try to break them down to a science. I suppose that's part of their appeal.

Hmmmm...... I didn't think so, but as I compare them side by side, I think I see it.

Some people refer to lubricated to be 'smooth' ink, which is usually more viscous and thicker. But some refer to lubricated as free flowing and wet, usually thinner inks.

Aristotle is a thinner ink than mb/ mb,but strangely enough, I find Aristotle more lubricated( offers smoother writing experience). This goes against my usual findings as well- generally thicker inks offer a smoother feel. This is a tad strange to me, I'm thinking maybe I have a bad batch of mb/mb-- although the color seems fine.

On a side note- I find aristotles water resistance vastly superior to mb/ mb-- ( this may be due to a bad batch of mb/mb? )

When I look at your side by side comparison I see it as well. It's the same thing I've been experiencing. Amazing. IMO this is the best all around ink I've ever used.

Figured I'd share some more of my experiences with this ink. Ive been using it for a while now and it has become my staple ink.. The performance is amazing, i personally love the color and the water resistance is the best of any iron gal I've used. It writes on everything and maintains its almost flawless characteristics.. I hope someone else does a review so we can see how the consistency is from bottle to bottle. This stuff is easily my favorite ink.

After using this ink in a few pens, I've noticed an issue. In my very wet Noodler's Konrad, Aristotle began showing less flow and a lighter color after a few days, to the point where I had to flush it out. The pen seems fine, and writes well with other inks. I then tried it in a vintage Sheaffer Admiral lever filler. Again, after a few days the color of the ink lightened to the point where I felt that the pen needed to be flushed. Now I'm trying it in a Pilot Cocoon. Immediately after filling, things were wonderful. Within two days, the ink flow seems to have decreased to the point where it's too light to show well on paper.

Has anyone else noticed this, or have any suggestions to correct it? Flushing a pen after two days, when it's still full of ink, just seems wrong.

According to OS, the ink varies by batch.

I found it was just not my color and didn't use it long enough to be able to give you a real analysis if it gets cloggy. Sorry I couldn't help.

Quite all right. I just returned from a journaling-with-a-beer session, and it is writing lighter now than this morning, despite a full converter. I'd hate to retire the ink, because in every other respect it's outstanding.
