Platinum Izumo Glossy - Tagayasan

Nice review!

I recently got my first Platinum (3776 Balance) and was pleasantly surprised. The nib (SF) was as good as I've heard but I also thought the plastic appeared as good as that on the Sailor PG. I know that is heresy, but I've got a pair of pliers and a bucket of water handy. I now feel tempted to buy one of their fancier pens (or a Nakaya) when I can afford (alas, that list just keeps on growing) and some variant of that model just became one of the prime options (although it will probably end up being one of the briarwood pens).

I find it odd that there was not a converter in the box. It is worth such a small fraction of the cost of the entire package so why not include one?

Thank you for pointing out the differences. Are the nibs on these Izumos larger than the regular 18k nibs used on the President pens?

Thank you. :) I really don't know why the converter was not installed inside the pen at the factory itself.

Thank you for the nice review but ... I was looking at an Izumo Akatame for somewhat later, but now after reading your review I have already budgeted for next month. Oh well, I should not be reading the reviews if I wanted to save money.

Thanks again, and really a great review.

Hello Hari, great review!! Beautiful pen indeed!! How do you like the nib?? I have a Platinum president, wich uses the same nibs, and don't really like it; too stiff, feels like a stainless steel nib. What is your opinion? Thanks!!

Hi, thanks!

I like the nib, I have tried all three: F/M/B and love the B, one of my friends loves his F. It is a rigid nib, not soft.

Hi Hari, I saw one post for Izumo wood with matt finish mentioning that matt wood is prone to ink stains. How about this glossy one?

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
