Staples Adds A Few More Fps

In recent years, The Staples in our area (in S. Central Pennsylvania) went from a nice glass-enclosed counter display of fine pens down to disposable Pilot Vectors and a rotating stand that had a few Cross FPs. I took a look today and they have added disposable Bics, another Cross or two, and three Parker Sonnets. The better pens are stored upright, nib down and posted, in a fixed stand that holds the pen in place so you can touch and feel, but keeps a buyer from handling it without assistance.

 

Interestingly, the the tines on all the Parker nibs are curled up on the ends, like someone tried to jam them through the rack. The nibs on the Cross pens are not. Does that mean the Cross nibs are really stiff compared to Parker nibs, assuming they all got equal treatment? Or, did someone intentially try to damage only the Parkers? Oh, the questions that occupy our minds.

There's already a thread about this somewhere - since they started adding nicer pens back, some Staples have apparently taken to a policy of damaging the more expensive display pens to keep people from stealing them.

Nope. Bent the other way.

At least they're carrying fountain pens (and bottled ink, even if it is only Quink Black -- but my local store, in the Pgh northern suburbs, had three bottles today, when a week or two they were only down to one, so *somebody* is buying it).

And they're better than Office Max, which only seems to have the Parker Urban sets like I got myself last year (M nib black pen, 2 black cartridges, 2 Washable Blue cartridges, slide converter, bottle of Quink Black and a pen wipe). Only for a couple of bucks more than I paid a year and a half ago. And a lot better than Office Depot stores -- last spring they had a display of "nice" pens for commencement gifts, including a Yafa cartridge pen... but no refill carts that I could see. (You could order them from a brochure in the box, but the shipping on a container of mini-carts cost more than the package of carts did themelves....)

They also have some bottles of Iroshizuku ink at around 22.00 each. Not all are this cheap and they don't have all colors.

Went to a Staples in my area(looking for 1.1 mm pencil lead for my Patrician

pencil--didn't find the size) and saw Cross pens,Parker Sonnets. Didn't see

any Delta,Conklin or Montverde fp's, though they are listed on their website.

Didn't see any ink either,but then it probably wasn't in the aisle I was in.

Oh it could well have been. You have to look way down, just off the floor, on the bottom shelf. There's usually one box of Quink hiding there somewhere. You'll probably have to brush the dust off a few objects to figure out which one of them is the ink.
