OK OK ... Im here... lol

It is alive and well...

Thanks for your answer and for your continued efforts to promote Fountain Pen Day. As you can see from some of the commentaries on this thread not everyone on this forum knows about this initiative to promote fountain pen use. So I guess my question started the buzz I was looking for... ;)

Just noticed Stylos.se and Art Brown's are listed as a participating vendors. Since they both closed up earlier this year, maybe they should be removed to avoid confusion?

Why the first of november? You won't find many companies open overhere.

For me : " Every day is fountainpen day! "

It's really whatever the first Friday in November is. This offers everyone the whole weekend to celebrate. There were some fairs at stores and quite a few pen clubs planned there meetings during that weekend.

If you still need a logo, let me know. It's what I've been doing for a living for over two decades...

PM sent.

What do the sponsors offer?

Last year many offered some discounts or extras to those orders that came in that weekend. Honestly the vendors support comes from them telling their customers about it, putting it on their websites as the reach they have is far greater then any individual.

We are going to still have them on the site but not as a current sponsor. It's a shame to see that they have gone. Especially to see that all of the Art Brown stuff is going to bankruptcy auction.

I don't want to be a party pooper but all this hoopla is not making my tail wag. It seems like a nice thought but I'm not seeing a pot-o-gold at the end of this rainbow.

I like the idea of making every day fountain pen day!

Like I said... it really came up after seeing so many National Holidays coming up in the papers etc for ridiculous things... and not seeing anything for our little corner of the world.

Don't get me wrong. I love the idea - anything to promote fountain pens and getting people to write is absolutely wonderful. I guess I'd like to see this happening on a bigger scale and with wider participation.

Last year I did what Koofle talked about doing -- I handed out pens. Well, okay, I handed out a couple of Pilot Varsity disposable FPs; and one of those was actually on that Saturday, rather than one FP Day itself, because that was when I was going to see one of the people I thought needed one -- but it was the thought that counts, right?

Also, coming in 2nd in the contest on the FP Day website was pretty cool. And I really only twisted one person's arm to vote for my entry (and hinted really hard to my husband but told him he didn't *have* to vote for me, although it would be nice if he did...).

Well, I think Fountain Pen Day is still in its infancy. This is only the second year of it, right? Seems that there are more sponsors on board this year than last. I think that in another year it will be even bigger. Will it ever be a national holiday? No. But I can see it growing to a day that is widely recognized in the community, and maybe a day that a lot of retailers will offer special sales and such.

"Everyone must have a new fountain pen for this most auspicious of days."

If everybody must have a new fountain pen for auspicious days, I have a lot of auspicious days in my year. Lol.

Fountain pens are like weapons. They just make your pocket bleed so much.

Just wanna say that I got into FP's in September last year and having Fountain Pen Day last Nov 2 made me have my very first Edison Pen and my first stub nib ground by Brian Gray himself.

I agree that everyday IS fountain pen day. But of course, it feels extra special to know that there is one day that is proclaimed for it. And of course, sponsor discounts are awesome as well! :-)

I'm looking forward for this day again!

Thanks,

Franz

Sponsor discounts are indeed awesome. Coming in second in the contest on the website garnered me a gift certificate to Zeller Writing Co, so I got myself some ink samples and (IIRC) a pad of Clairefontaine Triomphe.

Of course, as someone pointed out, two of the listed sponsors are no longer in business. And I noticed that the third one was Montgomery Stationery -- who's Ebay arm was the company that sort of jerked me around with something I bought that wasn't as advertised -- missing part of what was advertised, (plus the "set" had two entirely different date codes...) and then I got the "oh well, you can send it back" response with insufficient time to get anything else (it was for a graduation gift). The dispute was settled in my favor, and I got my money back, but because of that I can't leave the negative feedback they so richly deserved....

So, on a more pleasant note -- anyone know if they're having any sort of contest this year? The first one was fun.
