Golden Imperial Iii

A Sheaffer Imperial VIII with cap + barrel gold filled is called Sheaffer Imperial Triumph... A Sheaffer Snorkel Crest with cap + barrel gold filled is called Sheaffer Snorkel Triumph...

Today I bought a Sheaffer Imperial III (to be more precise, a set FP + BP), with cap + barrell gold filled. What is this creature's name???

A mismatched box and set?

Pictures?

Well... I don't care about the BP... But the FP is an Imperial ("square" ends), triumph nib (as all Imperial III's) but entirely gold filled. The pen hasn't arrive yet, but it's not so difficult to imagine...

The problem i I don't remember a Gold filled Imperial III but there was a Slim Imperial that was gold plated. It had the Triumph nib and was a barley corn pattern.

Is it a mislabeled Imperial VIII or Imperial Triumph?

I don't think so... An Imperial VIII don't has g.f. barrel... An Imperial Triumph don't has a Triumph nib... As soon as the pen arrives, I'll take some pics and post... The original pics are awful...

Without pictures, I only speculate-- an Imperial III section screwed into an Imperial Triumph barrel would fill the bill, and I don't think there's any diameter/threading issues to prevent it.

Ravensmarch Pens & Books
It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

The key is whether it really is rolled gold or gold plated. If it is gold plated then it is likely what was called the Slim Imperial; that was a gold plated barleycorn pattern touchdown Imperial with the Triumph nib as mentioned above. If it is rolled gold it is likely a triumph nib and section on an Imperial Triumph.

Is this the pen?

Mistery FINALLY SOLVED!!! The pen has arrived... In both pens, an interesting mark: 23K FLH... (first clue...)

FLH is the abreviated form of FOLHEADA... FOLHEADA A OURO (portuguese), means GOLD FILLED...

The pen box, has a tag with: SHEAFFER DO BRASIL S.A. and MODELO 500

The pen is made in Brazil with an USA made nib.

Tomorrow I'll take and post some pics...

Yes, and there's the slim 727 with the short Triumph nib in a lined pattern .... c/c version, not TD

These are I believe a Brazilian only model (?) made by the licence holder, Clearly a member of the Imperial family I doubt very much it was called a "slim Imperial", I suggest that at best a descripition. I've seen a number of example but don't recall a US made body. The first Imperial models ( prior to the well known I, II, III etc.) where based on the TM TD with Triumph nib and included plastic barrels with either a plastic, SS or gold plate cap. This would appear to have some features of that model and the standard Imperial line.

At seventies, Sheaffer was one of the famous brands to hold operations in Brazil. Others had factories too... Parker, Pilot, Pelikan, Sheaffer, Compactor and Faber. Parker close all brazilian operations. Pelikan, Pilot and Faber remains making stationery material (markers, stamp's inks etc).

Sheaffer remains in operation, because BIC has huge operations here, but don't make fountain pens anymore.

But I've never heard about this "design autonomy" to create local models...

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
