Yet another Snork question

Some open nibbed Snorks have a onepiece section. What is the correct way of ensuring a point seal on these models? A standard sized point seal gasket doesn't appear to fit.

John -

I am just wondering if your pen has a black section and that the collar on the nib unit just seems to be part of the section?

The fit can be so good as to be nearly invisible.

I wondered that too but if that is the case it's a $%^& to unscrew.

Dang! You are right!

Snorkels do have a one piece section and a screw in nib unit that has a black collar that can easily appear to be part of the most often black section. Some later model Snorkels have sections that match the pen colour so the differentiation between the section and nib collar is easy to see.

They can be a $%^& to unscrew and even though they should not be shellaced in place, I have seen this done. A little silicone grease on the threads will ensure a good seal and a slick fit without making nib removal a difficult process.

They are, without a doubt, the most complex pen ever made and the number of Snorkels I service here and the number of Snorkel related questions that are asked is a testament to that fact. They really aren't that hard to restore although you have to be meticulous in ensuring that all the work is done properly.

A restored Snorkel is a wonderful pen and should give many decades of use if it is properly cared for... I have sen 50 year old NOS pens work straight from the box so that gives one an idea of how durable a design it is.
