And for the same price, you can get about five Edsons and ink for a year!

You may overstate it with "etched". Somewhere between "stamped" and "screened", with the door left open to "decal". Not as who should say a regal presentation, in any event.

So rare, they decided to continue manufacturing them.

Wasn't there someone in need of a ruby red one? Seller announces to have one...

The pen store in Jordan I got my blue laquer fountain pen with an engraved Jordanian crown on the cap end said that King Hussein liked to custom order the various Waterman pens, pencils, etc. to give away as gifts, and that they were given to various members of his family and court to give away as well. Leads me to think that there might have boxes and boxes of them made for this purpose in the 1980s. My "royal" pen was priced much lower than these are marked at - much, much lower.

I tend to agree with Sinistral. I think these Jordanian pens are real, but more along the lines that you can buy an official University of..... (insert name of University) pen in the university shop. At decent prices.

But ofcourse the seller can always try to whip this up to extra super duper special deluxe very limited........... who knows who will fall for it.

If I may resurrect this topic but moreso the box on post #268 and subsequent comments thereafter pertaining to the authenticity of the text/recycling logo.

I spotted this unusual Waterman (Sanford GmbH) ballpoint box from the 90's which has the same logo.

Sometimes you think this old stuff is just junk and you get tempted to chuck it.

In pen collecting everything is part of a database.

I wonder when one of us will be featured on one of those hoarder intervention programs?

0 feedback sellers must pass a photography course before being allowed to sell.

Might be a good gamble for someone...

It was reading this ad that it finally dawned on me why they call them self-fillers. I've always thought it was such an odd name, like, did rich people have a servant who filled their pens for them or something, and these self-fillers were for the poor folks like my ancestors were? I've been using my Waterman 12 POC and 14 eyedroppers lately to write KWZI and Susemai reviews, and the puzzle pieces suddenly fell into place!

That ad makes me profoundly sad. The reference to active service combined with the calendar pages concluding in 1918 with "...so on for a lifetime" gives an uncomfortable suggestion that a lifetime is best measured in weeks, and probably not too far into double digits.

There's a dark thought for a cheery thread... :(
