Do You Know These Pens?

Good evening,

I have found these two pens in an old desk drawer at home. I tried to find some information, but it seems, that I cannot google properly :). Does anyone know them? Can you tell me more about them? Are they old? If yes, how old?

The black one is a Senator piston filler, most probably M nib. The nib and feed can be screwed out of the section and the ink reservoir can be flushed. I am not sure, but I think, that this one is not very old.

The brown one is a Czech Centropen. There is the word Centropen and some numbers on the side. They are worn out, so I cannot read them, I just know, that the last digist are maybe 806. Centropen 42S is on the nib, but I do not know what does the 42S mean. The pen has a converter which cannot be removed. But as you can maybe see on the pictures, there is ink behing the piston and I would like to open the converter somehow and clean it. Do you have any idea how to do that? I do not know if the nib can be removed, I tried a litle bit, but don't wont to brake it.

Thank you very much for any information.

There is a member Khufu who has expertise in Czech pens. I will PM him with a link to this thread.

The Senator is a West German made pen. Usually very good nibs but not top quality pens in spite of gold nibs and fittings. You will find quite a number of references on Google.

Senator is a brand name used by Merz and Krell who also use the Diplomat name. I suspect their pens are in recent years now made in China but I am possibly doing them an injustice. They are also known for making promotional pens for companies. Possibly the fountain

pens are still German made?

They also make the Senator President - yours may be an earlier version - which looks like a poor man's Montblanc http://www.senatorglobal.com/en/piston-filling-fountain-pen-president-fountain-pen-18ct.html

Centropen are still in business, mainly as a manufacturer of rollerballs etc but they have a web site. www.centropen.cz

Pens and paper everywhere, yet all our hearts did sink,

Pens and paper everywhere, but not a drop of ink.

Thank you very much Mike. I can confirm that the nib is great. It is very smooth and glides over the paper without any problems or feedback. Do you think it is made of gold? Any chance how to find out how old it is? It looks a little bit like the President, but there are still many differencies.

Thank you

Centropen 10016 is a pen from 1960´s Czechoslovakia. Made of UMA celluloid in 4 basic color schemes: brown pearl, grey pearl, blue pearl and green pearl. Piston filling unit was designed by Centropen chief design engineer ing. Jaroslav Zahel originally for use in 1950´s Centropens. Those pens were originally fitted with later version (not papillon) of Centropen 42 nibs.

Very cool pens and stunning celluloid of first quality!

Thank you very much. Is there a way for normal user to take the piston filling unit apart and clean it?
