A Question About Stipula Etruria Rainbow Le

Recommended Posts

Hi! I purchased a yellow Stipula Etruria LE and received it about 5 weeks ago. I have since been waiting an aswer from Stipula so I decided to ask you instead :)

The pen seems to be just as it should except for the trims. They should be silver, right? Well, mine are really shiny, more like chromium and the cap ring and the clip lack the silver hallmarks I've seen on some photos:

Oh, and BTW the limited edition number for my pen is 034/351

Is this normal? Is this some sort of a fraud? I'm kinda worried about this... Please help a rookie ^^

Thank you so much!!!

The rainbow stip eritrurias were all limited to 351 examples in each color. Not sure about the plating on the clip and the cap ring

I think the silver marks should always be there, that might be steel. I'm not 100% sure though.

Sadly, Stipula isn't "sailing across good waters", as we say here. The company seems to have gone into voluntary liquidation state, so maybe that's the reason they're less responsive than usual.

I wouldn't be catastrophic though, as it may just be something to be done prior to a switch in the ownership.

Lacking more detailed informations, I can just wish them the all the best.

Maybe we should ask WIMG what the company is up to

This line of pens by Stipula does not feature any precious metal in the trim or clip. The trim design is the classic design that they use for their Etruria's which is why there is a spot of the hallmark, because they used the same mold to make the trim. So to answer your question, it is not sterling silver, and it wasn't supposed to be.

According to Stipula's website, they used "white metal" for the trim.

That would make sense... but how come there are photos of the Rainbow LE with the hallmarks?

A photo from nicholasyeo's review of the same pen ( https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php?/topic/243268-stipula-etruria-rainbow-yellow-le )

for example shows the hallmarks on the ring:

Thank you so much for helping!

The Etruria Rainbows all have non-precious metal cap bands as far as I know, my specimen certainly doesn't have a silver band. It may well be that the prototype used for the original photographs may have sported a silver band. However, at the price of the Rainbow series, I don't think it is feasible to have it equipped with a silver cap band. Yes, original design band, but in metal, probably bronze, and chrome plated.

As to a supposed "voluntary liquidation state", I think that that is indeed a little exaggerated rumor to say at the least. There are some major changes ahead, yes, about which I can't disclose anything at this moment, but suffice to say that I spoke with the CEO, Luca Viti, for over two hours a little less than a week ago, and that in addition we are planning visits to dealers together later this year, and that we are also working together on a new series of LEs. If everything works out as planned, I should be able to tell you more in about a week's time or so, although it may take a little longer - it's summer in Italy too, and almost Ferie d'Agosto.

HTH, warm regards, Wim

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
