Rotring or Lamy

I am quite fond of both Japanese and German pens. (How odd...thinking of WW-II...)

A few years ago I thought I just had to have a Rotring pen. Back then, it was the hexagontal design I thought I wanted. But now, I think the Initial better suits my style. A local pen dealer told me that Rotring might be on its way out as a pen company. That made me want one even more. However, since then I have been looking online at the Lamy FPs. The Studio Collection looks nice.

I wonder if anybody here is familiar with both pens and has a recommendation.

Thanks.

Don't have a Lamy, but do have an Initial and it is a great every day, heavy-duty, robust pen with a generous spring-loaded clip. Nib is smoooth (mispelled on purpose) also. I wrote a review and it's posted here:

Rotring Initial Review

I don't know the Lamy, but I highly recommend the Initial.

  1. I have some Lamy pens and some Rotring Vintage pens , Ball points ,Pencils, and drafting  vintage pens. Most of the Routings are worth tring  . They are very precise quality  instruments.
  2. Lamy pens are also good writers. I don't have any High-end pens from them. But believe they are great.  I have several Lamy Calligraphy pens which  has good EF nibs. They are very interesting instruments in Ink drawing...
