Sailor Kobe #14

The Kobe series of inks is something I discovered a while ago when the amazing Sam_Capote ordered some using a forwarding service. It was super pricey and a pain in the butt to coordinate. But now, an extremely kind and professional person is selling them on ebay for a very reasonable price and super low shipping. So of course, I bought about 18 inks, and of course I've been supremely remiss in posting reviews.

Sailor has made a lot of really great blues and this one is no exception. It's a gorgeous colour, nice saturation, good shading, and gorgeous sheen.

It is a rich, royal blue that is very appealing and well behaved.

Great review. Only problem is that I now need 18 more inks. Beautiful colour. Reminds me of S.T.Dunlop's blue!

Most of the general Sailor colors won't hold up to water at all really. I did a quick test with this color (Maya Lapis) and found it ran very quickly under water. It holds up a little better than Noodler's Blue Eel, but still was totally illegible after a dunk.

This color is on the purple side of blue but is a pretty intense color from a wet nib. The lighter tones aren't extremely saturated so I was a bit ambivalent about it at first.

I wonder how this looks next to Sailor Ultramarine.

Robert.

#37 is MUCH darker and more intensely saturated. #37 has the feel (though not exactly the same colour or shade) of DC Supershow Electric Blue. This #14 is milder, more a sedate royal blue.

So I guess my answer is, "it depends on the mood I'm in and what I'm looking for". :)

This is possibly my favorite of the line. I had to buy a second bottle recently because I didn't want to be without it!

Thanks for the nice review.

Gotcha, thanks!

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
