Daiso Loose Leaf And Binders - Aussie Alert

Stumbled upon a store in Melbourne I haven't seen before called Daiso - a Japanese store that sells an amazing range of items. They claim more than 200,000. Everything in the store is the one price - $2.80.

I bought a couple of packets of their A4 loose leaf. 70 sheets ruled 7mm for $2.80 - also available in 6mm and blank. The paper is very good for FP use. I tried it with a range of Lamy Safaris including 1.1 italic, fine and medium, a Parker 51 wet fine, two Parker duofolds and a couple of italic Chinese pens that also run quite wet. No bleed or show through. Quite amazed to be honest. This is a very good, very inexpensive paper. It is punched 30 holes and also two hole so it will fit standard two ring binders. Daiso also have a good range of 30 ring binders at the same price - $2.80.

I'm heading back later this week to stock up on the paper as I suspect (don't know for a fact) that the paper may change from time to time, so I will strike while the good quality is available.

If you have an hour or so to kill it is fun just reading the english translated instructions on some of the items, especially in the cleaning goods section.

Paper is good quality and great value.

I think they only have stores in Melbourne so far, opening Brisbane soon. Worth a look if you are near one.

PS: Paper ruling is typical Asian with No. and date at the head, column markings on the top and bottom lines. Nice feint ruled. I really like the product.

Yep, I did a review on the Daiso paper a while ago. It's great. i have quite a few packets as I stock up as well. So far the paper is very consistant in quality and all works brillantly with Fountain Pens (including really wet writters like Noodlers pens when flexing). Thankfully I work about 2 minutes from the store, so can restock at any time.

Apologies if this is a duplication. The paper really surprises. Did you grab a few 30 ring binders? They're quite good too considering the price.

The more the merrier I say :)

I mostly get the B5 paper. I find it is great for work. Not too big that it's a pain to carry around (like A4) but not so small that you burn through pages (like A5). B5 is perfect for my work notes.

I do use the A4 at home as scrap/scribble paper as well. The plain A5 seems to be slightly less ink resstant (showing a little more through the page) but still perfectly useable.

For $2.80 the paper and binders are all unbelievable quality. Considering the price we are slugged for everything else here, having a good quality alternative at a lower price is great.

Do they do a B5 folder? If so, I will grab some when I head back there this week.

They do. They didn't have one for ages (they were waiting on stock) but they came in a few weeks ago.

I use their B5 and A5 binders, paper and notebooks in my business. We all use fountain pens and the notebooks are a great value price and excellent quality.

Although I meant to type A4 (sorry), they did have some A5 ones in their city store a while ago, but not the last time I went. They seem to have slightly different stock in different stores. I found plenty of B5 binders and paper in Doncaster but no lined A4 paper there. The city store had heaps of lined A4 but no B5. Checking out the Richmond store tomorrow.

True. I bought a few packs of A4 at Highpoint West but then went to Doncaster and they didn't have any at all. Going back to Highpoint tomorrow so hope to stock up on A4. Will keep an eye out for A5 as I would love to have a few binders and refills. Most practical size for me.

Plenty of A4 & B5 binders and loose leaf paper at Richmond yesterday but no A5. Nor were there many notebooks.

Hi my fellow aussies - just thought I would update this thread after my initial excitement at finding this product.

Have now been using this paper for about 6 weeks and have bought a second lot. As an everyday sheet for business or leisure it continues to please. I am heading back to Highpoint in the next week or so to try and buy a few more packets. I don't know if the paper quality changes from batch to batch of if Daiso is more consistent than that so will try and stock up whilst the quality is so good.

Best value paper I have found for a long time. Get into a Daiso and try it out.

Yeah, I fully agree. I love it. I have stocked up on a fair few packets of it as I use it for work stuff and random writing at home. This stuff is definitely worth getting!

It is rare for us aussies to find a real bargain like this. Went to Doncaster and they didn't have any and didn't know what I was talking about. Back to Maribyrnong this week.

  • 4 years later...

As a result of comments on this board, I have been trying Daiso products. I have Kraft-bound notebooks, notepads (Maruman look-alikes) and the loose leaf refills.

As said somewhere else, the quality varies according to the country of manufacture, but it seems to be more than acceptable.

I am currently working up a review of the loose leaf refill paper.
