Waterman kultur

Recommended Posts

Overall, 17/20 I received the pen tonight.. so I haven't had chance to write extensively with it. But the little I have wrtie with it looks good.

Thanks for the review. I have four Kulturs, and I pretty much agree with what you've said. The only thing I would add is that mine get a bit stubborn if not used for more than a day. After that time, they become slow-starters or non-starters. That's not much of a problem if the pen is a daily user, but I like to keep several pens filled for use in rotation. Still nice pens, though.

Regards,

Ray

Have the same problem. This does however only occur with the f-nib Kultur.

I love my Kultur. It's a clear demonstrator with a fine nib. I used it for two years in college, and I'm still using it today. It's smooth, and wet, and well, I wouldn't change a thing. It's light enough that it feels fine posted or unposted. I've written for hours at a time with my Kultur (note-taking, exams, etc.), and it's always felt just great. I've been using it for long enough that I guess I've "broken in" the steel nib and it's become very expressive.

I especially like the Kultur because it's a good fountain pen that you can take to class and not look ridiculous with. The Phileas looks too pretentious.

It's a silly question, the Kultur being the bottom of the line and all, but do all Watermans write as well as this little pen? In grad school, it's okay to have a nicer-looking pen, and I figure I might upgrade someday.

I have a Waterman Expert II, in addition to several Kulturs. The Expert II is certainly not the top of the line, but it is my favorite pen. It writes noticeably better than the Kulturs (though I do like the writing characteristics of the Kulturs as well).

hey Chris1729!

give the Phileas a break!

It's only a cheap little homely thing!

If you start thinking of pens as pretentious you may never enjoy the dark world of fountain pen use and collecting :crybaby:

go on try some - a little bit wont hurt you (need a devil/bad angel emoticon).

Armchop,

Far be it from me to criticize the Phileas! That little pen has done its fair share to introduce customers to the use of fountain pens. (Actually, I find the heft of the Phileas compared to the Kultur quite nice.) I only meant that it can be a little off-putting to be scrawling notes in Palmer method with a fancy looking fountain pen while the guy next to you found a chewed-up Bic roundstick on the floor six minutes before class. Sometimes a more understated elegance is more appropriate in the situation. ~wink~

Necroposting, but wanted to throw in on the already-indexed review topic...

I love the Kultur. I've never actually used a Phileas; I started not liking its look because I began to see it as a Kultur with some gold furniture tacked on! :roflmho:

But I've had two Kulturs so far, one glittery transparent purple M, and one marbled transparent green F (the "Lara Croft" version; not a Tomb Raider fan but a very pretty pen). The F is more to my liking, but both have been smooth and reliable, not prone to drying or clogging given good-quality ink; I just love 'em! Someday I'm gonna get myself another one or two (like a translucent blue...)

Kultur gets my recommendation for someone's first FP.

I've been using my Kultur Cristal M almost everyday for a month now. It's loaded with Waterman black ink cartridge. It is a great looking instrument and i love the big nib too. I too prefer the looks of the Kultur over the Phileas due to the lack of the gold band (I'm not against all gold trim, just the Phileas isn't to my taste).

My Kultur seems to have acquired many little scratches over the body but I must admit it isn't treated with the loving care I really should give it. I would love to get a couple more, and even try the fine point since everyone speaks kind words about it. I do like the ink flow and wetness of the medium nib though. The kultur does give me some trouble starting up first thing in the morning or after being left uncapped, but if I leave it lying down with the nib pointing downwards, the flow is superb - no troubles at all.

I've also taken it across the atlantic with now leaks during air travel.

With the nib pointing downwards, today has been my favourite day with the Kultur and it's writing almost as smoothly as my Hemisphere. Another plus point is due to its thickness, its more comfortable to hold than the Hemisphere. It's nce to know the Pelikan M200 is roughly the same size. I've been eyeing either a 215 or 400 as my next purchase.

The day I bought my hemisphere was the first day in this lifelong love affair with fountain pens. All you great folk on FPN help feed this addiction! Thank you!

I have two Kulturs: one red F and one blue M. Sadly, the blue M seems to have a slightly off-centre nib slit and can be v. stubborn to get going sometimes, so I have shelved it. The F is better, but is also a non-starter (like others have mentioned) if I haven't used it for a few days. Otherwise, they feel nice in the hand and they are v. good for notetaking in class. They compare well with the Pelikano in that niche of quality school pens, but the Pelikano is more reliable in starting up, even if left dormant for quite a long time, so I think I prefer them to the Kulturs.

The blue one is from ebay. I got the red one in a stationery shop in Paris a month ago. Another shop there had a whole bin full of the crystal ones for about 10 euros a pop, so there are definitely still some about in the wild.

The Kultur is a wonderful pen. I used to have it in five colors, but I have pared down to just one -- my pen case was too full! I kept the yellow one, which is lovely with black ink.

I have the phileas, and i'm in the market for at least one clear, maybe a clear and another color culture. My mom likes bics because she can see the ink. maybe this'll make her see the light.

I bought it from lewertowski for £9,79 GBP including shipping to canada. I don't know if he has any left. It was a buy it now price. Didn't feel like waiting and biding.

Good luck finding your Kultur!

Lewertowski still has a pile of them - I just had a lot of three delivered yesterday to Mississauga, Canada (5 business days delivery time - magic!).

I have started my primary school aged kids out on FPs with the Kulturs.

They love writing with the pens- I hope we don't have any disasters because of pen "malfunctions" ;) .

Cloud, any luck with the eyedropper conversion?

Yeah, I would like to know if you succeeded with the eyedropper conversion. I tried with my phileas and Noodler's nikita and it was a disaster.

Actually, all I needed was a little more grease and it works like a charm. I really like the way some ink pools at the nib just inside the section so you can see the colour...

I love my Kulturs. I have a transparent blue, and a transparent red one. Since I have a writing incapacity (see the newbie/intro section), I need a smooth unproblematic writer, and this one does it. Posted, preferentially, to add a little counterweight. Sad that it apparently has vanished already, it makes for a great kids' introduction into FP writing IMHO. No frills, just: a pen.

I have been looking for the Tomb Raider version of these pens. I was a huge huge Tomb Raider/Lara Croft fan as a kid. I did an eyedropper conversion on one of these I'd purchased... I want to say it was a user grade one here on FPN a couple years ago but it may have been Ebay. A rubber o-ring and silicone grease later and I have a huge capacity very wonderful pen for journaling.

If I could I'd purchase one in every color. They are fun pens. Too bad about them no longer being made.

I'll keep an eye out for the Tomb Raider ones - I saw one recently. There are quite a lot of Kulturs on sale in the classifieds but the asking price maybe is a bit steep. Lovely colors though.
