well i got my parker 75 back. apparently the pen went to france. $13 in shipping to them wasted as they said they no longer have the parts to repair. not sure what parts are required for a cleaning. not only did they not do a thing...they didnt even have the courtesy to replace their faulty leaking ink refill.

oh well...at least i got it back

Interesting thread. I've been a fan of the Parker gel bp refills and had a supply of them -- in original blister packages -- in my desk drawer (I've a number of pens both Parker and others which use the same refills). Just went to replace the refill on a pen that had gone dry and found that all of the unused refills in my desk drawer had leaked! Not ink; some sort of clear mildly oily liquid. So I'm now looking through the forum postings to see both other experiences and recommendations.

I like the idea of the Fisher refills. I'm surprised that some have found these to link in the car (auto for you non-US members). I've long kept a Fisher bullet pen in my car, using the same refill, with never a leak even after years in the car through summer heat and winter cold....

well its been just about 1 year since ive posted in this thread. guess what? the brand new OEM parker refill I put in to replace the leaky one.......just leaked again. are these refill just made crappy or what? before anyone tells me its my fault.....I want to state for the record that this pen NEVER leaves my desk. it sits horizontally right beside my keyboard when not in use. there is nothing parker can do short of replacing this pen with their current pen of equal value. this is not acceptable to me as this pen has extreme sentimental value. ive already turned down parkers offer for this type of replacement.

now I have to go through the lengthy cleaning process again. this would be the third time in 4 years.

by the way, this OEM refill was given to me by parker from the first time the pen leaked and required service. they had replaced the refill when serviced and gave me an additional one........geeeeee thanks......

or may be there is direct sunlight falling on your desk or the temperature is a bit more than hot near the desk this might be the culprit

thanks for the reply. is there anything special you have to do to make them fit or do they already fit?

there is no direct sunlight as there is a drop down panel where the keyboard goes, however, it is near the pc tower and in the summer there is a considerable amount more heat that the rest of the room. maybe you found something here. nevertheless.....this pen has sat in the same place since I bought this roll top desk some 20 years ago and its only been the last 3-4 years that ive experience any kind of leak from this pen.

youre not kidding......these new refills are horrible. so far it has cost me many man hours cleaning with alcohol. are these monteverde refills available in staples or similar type stores?

I have had a couple of Parker refills leak in the past but that was over 10 years ago. I have used Monteverde refills and found them excellent but I had one a couple of years ago that refused to write after about a week, it's twin (it was in a pack of two) never gave any trouble. It seems that quality control could be an issue here. I have quite a supply of UK made Parker refills (they have not been made in the UK for a number of years) and, as I only use a ballpoint pen for signing the back of credit cards and for forms which state that a ballpoint must be used, I think they will last my lifetime. My Parker 75 Fountain Pen gives me no trouble.

I fired an email to parker and they are going to send me some refills and a bottle of amodex. not sure what amodex is but it sounds like its similar to windex????

anyway...even with the freebies which wasn't my intentions to have them send......I am very afraid to use them. my best guess is since this pen sit on my roll top desk by my keyboard, the heat in the summer plus the fact that its close to my pc tower may be causing the refills to leak. this has happened only in the last 3-4 years though.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
