Just recommended this to another FPN member. Worth considering if it's not too late . . . :)

I LOVE mine.

Seriously underrated, often overlooked.

Get one.

What model is that, and cost?

Guessing it's this one:

That's the one.

Enjoy.

Let us know how you get on. :)

The leather one looks attractive, and you can't seem to get it much cheaper on ebay (all the ones seem to be from Malaysia... not really worth saving the $5 shipping)

Guess that's going on my cheap wish-list for next month then.

@Aurko

I found this compact pen on teh Muji site.

http://www.muji.us/store/aluminum-compact-fountain-pen.html

And it sure looks like the Ohto Tasche, except for the finish.

So now I have a better idea of the pen you showed, because I have an Ohto Tasche.

In fact based on how the compact looks, I would guess that Ohto makes the 2 fountain pens for Muji.

I've heard something like that, but I am not entirely sure whether or not that's true. I would not recommend the compact pen as it does not take a converter, but I don't know if that's an issue for you. I would guess that as well, but it may also be possible that they took some design cues from Ohto. It would be nice if I could confirm it.

Yes, my Ohto Tasche does NOT take a converter either.

But for the use as a pocket pen, right next to my wallet, I will put up with using a syringe to fill the cartridge. Since I don't use it a LOT, I don't have to fill it often.

If I didn't say it and no one else did either, Pilot Metropolitan. OK, you are tired of hearing me that BUT please remember that I keep on saying it because I really mean it so that makes it OK. :)))

Depends what "cheap" is I guess. Sorry to hijack your topic but I'm new around here - didn't really fancy the responsibility of a whole new topic to myself!

Does anybody have an opinion on whether this Parker pen would be a good buy?: http://www.executivepensdirect.com/parker-im-fountain-pen-brushed-metal-with-gold-trim

Great price, looks pretty smart. Will it write well? Thanks in advance for any help.

@Penny

16-GBP seems high for that pen. I've seen it for about $20-USD on Amazon.

The Parker IM does write well.

Mine came with the standard M nib, then I sent it back to Parker to exchange for the smaller F nib.

> To exchange nibs, you need to send it back to Parker within 28 days of purchase.

Both M and F nibs wrote well using Waterman ink.

Be aware that it is a bit heavy (30g) since it is all metal, and it is a bit on the FAT side (12mm barrel).

I am just used to lighter slim pens, so the IM did not work for me.

I got the Faber Castell Basic with Mother of Pearl. The difference in the grip section from the barrel isn't enough (meaning it's nearly the same diameter) and that tires my hand. It looks nice, though. And nib wasn't very smooth, despite what SBRE Brown said....maybe I got a lemon.

Sheaffer 100 took a lot of tweaking, but now is my wettest writer.

Platinum Preppy was fun, very cheap, decent nib.

Bulow (Jinhao) x450 had decent nib, also very cheap and included a bottle of Chesterfield (Diamine) ink!

Lamy Safari was smooth, but hard as a nail.

Noodler's Nib Creaper great bargain, fun to flex, but have heard some people have trouble with them.

Pilot Plumix super cheap, really odd looking, but ended up liking it a lot. The stub nib is awesome.

Pilot Metropolitan -- smoothest of all of my pens, an absolute joy to write with from the box.

Was looking at his review after the pen was mentioned here, I orderedone of them in carbon fiber today wwith a fine nib, so will see if I get the same impression.

That's interesting that they offer broad exclusively as a stub nib, tthough I might kind of like it if it's under a 1.1mm stub.

It's not marked...I'm guessing it's a 1,1 or smaller.

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
