Hi, I'm Bryan from NH. I grew up in England and my school would not allow us to use ballpoints becuse they affected the character of one's handwriting.I've been a regular FP user for about 55 years. I still have two Shaeffer's I recieved as gifts for my barmitzvah, and that was 50 years ago! I didn't know any one actually collected fountain pens until a few weeks ago when I found my touchdown wouldn't fill. I went on line and discoverd this network which has led me to bid on a number of pens on Ebay. (I now have a bunch of Wearevers for practice repair) I bought a touchdown repair kit and that pen is now working again. My collection, if you can call it that, includes Lamy Safari, Rotring Core, 2 Shaeffers, Esterbrook, Montblanc Classic (what a leaker!), several Wearever bits and pieces, 2 osmiroids, 2 Serwex, a Hero 616 (I love cheap pens!). I just picked up a Jinhao X750, its a heavy bugger!

I like broad nibs, especially stub italics. I'd love to get my hands on a Burnham, It is the pen I used all through school.

I'm looking forward to the New England Pen show.

Warmest welcomes, Bryan !

 

It seems that someone always gives a gift of a fountain pen in celebration of barmitzvah. I love that practice,

I wish it were more common everywhere.

 

I, too, have a fascination with "LOW-END" fountain pens. I have a love-hate relationship with the Jinhao x750.

I like the big war club, with its generous line of ink, but hate having to push a bit of ink into the nib, from time

to time. In my early stage of exploring fountain pens from India (Serwex, Guider, Oliver), I am finding pretty

GOOD VALUE..

 

Especially with cheaper pens, begin with a flush of dilute dish detergent (Dawn) to remove residual grit & oil

of manufacturing (plastic is petroleum), followed by a thorough clean-water rinse.

 

Through the medium of fountain pens, I have found GOOD VALUE in fellow members here, as well. I think

you will enjoy your time here, especially among us at the "LOW-END". :lticaptd:

Welcome Bryguy,

 

You will have such a great time at the pen show! (Why do I have the vision of a child in a candy store?) Not only will you get to see, touch, and use more pens then you've ever seen in your life in one room but you will be able to chat with scores of people who share this enjoyable hobby.

Hi Bryan,

Welcome to FPN.

 

We have a local pen group here in the Massachusetts, Maine & New Hampshire area. We're called, The Boston Pen People and our site will be up shortly. You can always check here on FPN regarding meeting schedule.

 

The New England Pen show is scheduled for June 14-16 so you might want to plan to come into Boston for that. Special rates at the hotel where the show is would save a few hours of commuting time for you too.

 

Enjoy the sites - both of them.

      Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

      It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

      Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

      Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

      @asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
