Caran D'ache Sunset

In my later years, I'm starting to see that although I had previously loathed pink inks, there are some that are quite nice. Caran d'Ache's Sunset is at the top of that list for me.

There is nothing I don't love about this ink. It's well behaved on Rhodia and CF paper, and has amazing shading.

Overall, I can't say enough good about this ink. The main downsides are that it is fairly expensive (usually about $21 USD + s/h for 30mL) and that it is discontinued (though it seems to be an unpopular colour of this brand, so there's lots left still online).

Several more up close shots of the yummy shading in my blog post here.

Loving this, too. What pen/nib are you using here? Your review inspired me to try my sample of Sunset in an italic pen, but I think it was still too narrow, as the result is darker with hardly any of the pretty shading you got.

This is a TWSBI 530 with 1.1 stub nib. It's a slightly (only slightly) dry writer, so maybe that's the issue. However, I use this ink in many pens - it's a favourite of mine! - and I find the shading to be gorgeous in all of them.

Here it is in a F Sheaffer Snorkel (it's the line on the top).

Thanks. I was suspecting that the Phileas was also a bit too wet to get the desired effect.

Great review, won't be buying that shade...

Essense du Papier has a dozen or so bottles of Caran D'ache suddenly.

Just in time for their move out of TD Centre, great sales on journals and notepads for the next few months...

Very pretty.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Not a bad color but a little bit too pinkish for me. Thanks for the review

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

One of my very favorites--sad to hear of its discontinuation. I don't know what it is about blushingly pink reds, but I love 'em. I must try looking for an alternative at some point.

Looks much the way I had hoped J. Herbin Rouge Caroubier would look, which ink is sadly lacking in saturation. Perhaps I'll pick up a bottle if my local shop has any left.

Thanks for the review.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
