I want to try serous flex, so I want a dip pen. http://www.amazon.com/Manuscript-Leonardt-Dip-Pen-Nibs/dp/B000VVLFQ6/ref=sr_1_24?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1364750371&sr=1-24&keywords=dip+pen i found this: Models-MG118-Feather-Pen/dp/B0041RZBRU/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1364752694&sr=1-1&keywords=feather+quill+pen and more, but the second one has some bad reviews, please tell me which one do you think, I AM NOT saying only these two, they are only examples. There are a lot from the first but they have calligraphy nibs, which I don't need.

If I were joining the dip pen movement I would contact jbb via PM.

San Francisco International Pen Show - The next “Funnest Pen Show” is on schedule for August 23-24-25, 2024.  Watch the show website for registration details.

My PM box is usually full. Just email me: my last name at the google mail address.

jbb is an FPN member who uses dip pens for her everyday writing. You can find her(right?) by going to the Members forum and searching or browsing for "jbb."She will definitely be able to give you tips on what to buy and where to get it.

But basically for flex writing with a dip pen, you want flexible "pointed pen" nibs--that is, not "broad-edge" nibs. Pointed pen nibs range from firm with no flex to very flexible. Just off of the top of my head--and I know of only a handful of flexible nibs, so this will just barely scratch the surface--you can try a Hiro 111EF, Nikko G (though these are stiffer than some), Brause Rose, Leonardt Principal EF, or Gillot 303 nibs. (Some of these nibs require smaller holders than others.) In the flexible nib world, there's a trade-off between flexibility and, er, catch-ability--meaning how likely the nib is to catch your paper on upstrokes. You need to find nibs that give you a comfortable balance between the two.

Since jbb writes with pointed nibs daily, I'm sure she can give you a definitive and focused list. In the meantime, you could also check out the site where I buy most of my calligraphy supplies: johnnealbooks.com. If you choose 'Calligraphy & Illumination' Tools & Materials from the menu on the left and then choose 'Pointed Nibs,' you'll get a list of pointed nibs with descriptions.

Good luck!

best wishes,

eo

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
