What Is Your Favorite Wooden Pencil?

Recommended Posts

My favorite overall is the KOH-I-NOOR hardtmuth Toison D'or 1900. I love the looks and feel of the finish. It reminds me of a steam locomotive. It has that kind of luxury combined with functionality and it looks like a serious tool. A very fine pencil indeed. It would be impractical to use it everyday though, as I only know of one store that sells them locally and it's hard to order pencils online here.

For the most practical, I like a lot of the pencils a store called TIGER or Flying tiger, depending on where you are, sells. They look nice enough, are dirt cheap and perform good enough for daily writing. They aren't perfect, but they are very nice for the price and they come in boxes of 12.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

FP Ink Orphanage-Is an ink not working with your pens, not the color you're looking for, is never to see the light of day again?!! If this is you, and the ink is in fine condition otherwise, don't dump it down the sink, or throw it into the trash, send it to me (payment can be negotiated), and I will provide it a nice safe home with love, and a decent meal of paper! I'm no artist. I use pencils for writing.

My favorite wooden pencils for writing are the Mitsubishi Hi-Uni HB and the Staedtler Lumograph HB or B.

I love to write with the Palimino Blackwing 602, but the point erodes too quickly.

I do love all my Palominos but the only pencil I won't let anybody borrow is the Viarco Premium HB2 (not sure if that's the name of this particular pencil, that's what it says on the body). It's not as silky as other pencils, and the wood sometimes shreds a bit, but it has an interesting combination of toothiness and freedom of laying down graphite (like when you're driving and you can feel the road, without a suspension so tight your teeth rattle).

Mitsubishi Hi-Uni in B is my favorite overall and a Generals Cedar Pointe for a practical. I did struggle a bit with the overall choice as I am also a Blackwing Pearl user and on another day it could have made the top of the list.

My favorite budget pencil is the USA Gold. I like the feel of their lead better than that of the Ticonderoga.

Thanks to an old hand injury, I can't write for long with thin pencils.

That's one reason I love the Caran d'Ache Black Wood 499HB. I got it with an iPenBox subscription and fell completely in love with it.

After that, the Tombow Mono 2H, as long as I have a pencil grip thingie on it.
