Three Greens

I've already run out of the Sapphire in my ringtop, so here's the Penman Emerald scan without the Parker '51' (has a much bigger tummy than my ringtop, so it's still full of Sapphire). I tried to replicate an EF rigid FP nib with the thickest dip pen I have. Thanks again, HyperCamper, for providing me with the ink! :D

(Paper: Clairefontaine)

Penman Emerald: It doesn't seem to behave quite as well as the Sapphire, but still very good. The ink would sometimes skip during swells (Sapphire never did), but that could have been just me or some other variable. The color is very pleasant, and looks a teeny bit cooler in person than how it shows on my screen. I wish it were a little lighter, though, so that I may see more of its beautiful color in the shading. Maybe I'll use a rigid nib with this one.

PR Avacado: I'm not too fond of this color, and it smells very funny. x_x A bit lighter than Emerald overall.

Noodler's Army Green: I like this color a lot, but I wish it were a little bit lighter!

All three are flex-able. B)

-Hana

P.S. I'll probably write more about Emerald after I've used it for a day or two.

Well, I have been thinking about a green to try, I'm a black ink user for 40 plus years, and after looking at your greens, I think it's finally about time to try some. Do you have an opinion on any of these?

Noodlers Green Catus

Thanks for the beautiful scan, Hana. The Noodler's Army Green looks like it might be the green I've always wanted (but didn't quite find in Herbin Vert Olive). I share your feelings about PR Avacado, and not just because the company didn't check the spelling before launching the product :D. I once felt distinctly ill after writing with it for just a page. I don't think that it was the smell; it was simply the colour. It mixes very well with Noodler's Black, though.

Great work, as always, Hana! Penman Emerald, PR Sherwood, and Levenger Gemstone are my favorite greens. Thanks for the scans.

BTW, I've noticed that extremely shaded parts glimmer red (magenta?) on both the Sapphire and the Emerald. It's strange, and sort of pretty!

I read somewhere -- it may be apochryphal -- that the ink is named after a woman called Ava. If that's so, the trademark should have included the typographical equivalent of a wink -- a hyphen, italics, something -- to indicate that the spelling was intentional. As it is, they may as well rename it Avacado [sic], since that's how it's often referred to. :P

lol  Splendid idea!

But I wonder why they haven't fixed the spelling on the newer batches if it was indeed unintentional.

That's a great story. It reminds me of the one -- again, possibly apocryphal -- about the woman who insisted that, no, she hadn't forgotten to put an apostrophe in the sentence 'Those things are my husbands'.

Why not, indeed. I take this as evidence that the spelling was, in fact, intentional. After all, the names of other PR inks aren't rife with mistakes: there is, for example, no Surewould Green, Blue Swayed, or Flee Esther Red. :o OTOH, the PR website itself has it spelled both ways! Perhaps someday Ava herself (or her avocado) will make an appearance here and clear the whole thing up. :D

Ha! What was her name, I wonder? :roflmho:
