Since the flex issue has become more important in recent posts than the glassy smooth character of the ceramic coating (which is the real innovation with these nibs), I attach the picture of a bunch of figure 8's as requested. Now remember this is a semi-flex nib which we decided on to bridge a lot of writing styles, but it can express itself very well.

Hope this helps some.

Hi Sid, Thanks for the peek; looks encouraging. How about a simple side-by-side comparison on a single sheet with a semi-flex moderns like a Noodler's Ahab or Konrad (provided the Noodler's pen(s) actually work), and/or a Pelikan gold nib.

Now that would be a nice idea if only I had such pens to use....I am the Wahlnut, If I were the Pelikannut or a Noodlersnut I probably would have such pens on hand, but alas, I do not. And, BTW, Who is Ahab? :-).

This might help you...The paper on which the test was done is 3/16" (.5mm) quadrille squares paper. So anyone could use/make on their computer such sized paper and do many many other pens test comparisons for themselves. No matter what pen I use for comparison, someone will probably ask for another test for a different pen that they know. I think lets wait and see what the reviewers have to say rather than me asking people to take my word for everything. And, I hear reviews are coming soon.

I hope there's a San Francisco Pen Show so I can see these with my hands. With the lovely chaos of the LA Pen Show, I plumb forgot to check out these pens -- until I saw Ricky's pictures after the fact. D'OH!

Those lines look good... tempting!

I hope so too. A good number of Pen Posse people saw them in LA and played with them...Ricky, Todd, Doug, etc. They can tell you a thing or 2 about them. BTW, it from what you wrote sounds like you have very unusual hands. :-)

I do have unusual hands! They help me to see things, like pens, better. For instance, I already like that green Corvette and Skyliner; I have to confirm with my hands. :-)

yesterday, I was about to order, but the order form insisted on me entering one of the US states. well, somehow shanghai, china is not located in any of the selectable states.

is this a US only party, or did the web shop programmers never run a test with a non-US postal address?

a bit frustrated...

regards,

sebastian

Sebastian,

Yes I am very sorry for your frustration. A Canadian buyer had the same problem yesterday and I told the programmers to fix the checkout to allow for foreign addresses with provinces etc. It takes a day or 2 for them to ad the database for the countries involved. I apologize.

To save you the trouble with the checkout process until that gets fixed (hopefully tomorrow). I will be happy to send you a PayPal invoice that you can settle outside the checkout process and we will all be happy...I hope. Please PM me with your pen choice and your PayPal id and I will do that right away.

I just received my Skyline, "Dr's Tribute" pen. It is an almost exact size match for the original skyline. It is very nicely made and Syd even did a bit of a custom change for me (and very quickly too I must say). The presentation is very nice too, a very nice box...don't know how that varies between the different series. I flushed it out today (my standard procedure with all pens) and took a bunch of (somewhat poor) pictures and will be filling it tonight. I hope to post a quick review tomorrow or Saturday...my biggest concern is meshing my already atrocious handwriting with a Dr pen :headsmack: :)

And, BTW, Who is Ahab? :-).

A captain who doomed himself and his crew with an obsessive quest for vengeance? An evil idol worshiping ruler from the biblical Book of Kings? :hmm1:

Thanks. I appreciate your effort on my behalf. I know both the Melville and the Old Testament reference and even the Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs one too .I was attempting (poorly) a sort of self deprecating joke.

No worries, I was trying to play straight man for the joke. One could look at both your resurrection of Whal Eversharp and many of the "could you make..." requests as obsessive quests, so the joke worked on multiple levels. :)

Yes, regrettably it is a glitch that will be fixed on the website by Monday. The programmers need to update the choices with country specific address formats.

In the meantime, for international buyers, I can invoice them/you through PayPal for the pen you want for the proper total amount directly, or you can initiate the PayPal remittance for the proper amount from your end. In either case I will handle the transaction manually. Very sorry for the inconvenience.

I have done a handwritten review but then had a family emergency so it is not yet posted. I will post when things calm down...probably in a couple of days. In short, it is a very nice pen and the flex is somewhat like the Ahab, though it doesn't go to the same extreme, but it is similar as far as pressure to reach line width withing the scope of what it does.

I did my review with Akkerman Ruud Haags Pluche and it is a nice combination!

  • 2 weeks later...

just got mine (a classic).

nice pen. but:

it seems to prefer quality paper.

and the squealing is not nice. this is a pen for a noisy environment, where you can't hear that eeeeeeek eeeeek eeeeeeeeeeeeky eek.

and - although in more than one way it is the exact opposite of the pen i learnt to like recently (the hero 616), i'll keep it.

cheers,

s.

Yes it likes quality paper of course, but Squealing? Yikes! That is not a normal writing characteristic of our pens at all. That is not the way they usually perform. Please feel free to return it or exchange it for another that I will personally test before sending at no cost to you if you wish. Satisfaction Guaranteed is our policy

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
