What Are Some Nice Industrial Metal Pens?

ModiHammarstedt

Recommended Posts

I got my one of my roommates a Rotring 600 drafting pencil and fell in love with it, and now I want a Rotring 600 fountain pen, the only problem is...

They're incredibly expensive (for me at least) so I've been wondering if there's any metal pens with the same style!

Industrial Metal Pens:

1. Rotring 600

2. Lamy 2000 Stainless

3. Lamy Studio Stainless

4. Kaweco Special

5. Kaweco Al Sport

6. Levenger L-Tech

Any cheaper ones out there?

If the 2000 is too expensive, the Lamy Studio also comes in stainless for a lot less money.

I completely forgot about that! Thank you!

I have no idea what industrial metal is (apart from maybe something like Nine Inch Nails, Ministry or Pitchshifter).

But maybe the aluminium and brass Kaweco Special fits in. It's cheaper than the Rotring 600 although not by much.

Edit: Not by much, meaning... There was a black Rotring 600 with a gold nib on ebay last week. It sold for 93€. I've just bought a new Kaweco Special for 65€. But I suppose the silver Rotring 600 with steel nibs are usually cheaper than the black/gold ones.

Muji has a brushed aluminium fountain pen that retails for just a little over 15USD. I have one and while it doesn't glide like my Lamy, it's still a smooth writer. Aesthetically I love its minimalist design more than the Lamy.

The Caran D'Ache ecridor is nice too

Music is the harmonization of opposites, the unification of disparate things, and the conciliation of warring elements.

Ohto Dude and Fine, Levenger L-Tech, Lamy Al-star, Accent, cp1 and Scala, Tombow Zoom 505fp, Zoom 101 Carbon and Zoom Object. The Ohtos are nice pens and run under $25 without a converter—the do take a a standard international style converter but you'd have to buy it separately. The Tombow 505 AKA Havanna in brush Alumite trated aluminum and rubber is a very solid, large, fairly heavy but really well balanced pen in a traditional cigar shape that has an absolutely wonderful nib, the only reason mine doesn't see more use is that I find it uncomfortable to carry in a shirt pocket, if I wore a suit jacket most days it might very well be a go to pen. It's a subtle attention getter.

It looks like an x-acto knife! Is that a Schneider nib? Such a shame neither Muji Germany nor Japan seem to offer it. I'd buy one.

Another reason why I love FPN. I think about something and someone else immediately writes about it! Just got one of those this afternoon. Ebay, 13€ incl. p&p - feels like the best deal in ages B)

Metal fountain pens. There's also the rather inexpensive Faber-Castell Basic. And wasn't there a Hero? 160? Trying to find it...

Kaweco makes the AL Sport in a Raw Aluminum that I think looks pretty nice.

No, that's not blood. That's Noodler's Antietam.

Unlikely, and if it were, Muji would never tell. The whole point of Muji is that its products have no brand names. Muji's midtown store is very close to the bookstore I'll be going to tomorrow, so if you'd like, I can buy one and ship it over; PM me if you're interested.

If you are patient, you can find a Hero 850 with integrated nib. They come up in the classifieds every now and then. They should cost around $20.

How avout Michael's Fat Boy pens---made from aluminum and very industrial in design. Gel pen is about $100.00 and ftn. pen is slightly more. I got a catalog from Fountain Pen Hospital in NYC. that shows them.

Oops, meant Schmidt anyway, not Schneider

Thanks for your offer. Gonna PM you in 5 minutes.

If anyone wants a Muji, I got one that I can part with. PM me. ModiHammarstedt has first priority, PostTLab3000 second after that.

I don't want money for it, I want someone to use it. :)

A Lamy Logo in either finish. Even cheaper than the Studio in stainless.

Calculating.

I would say the Giuliano Mazzuoli Miniofficina and Officina pens are the most explicitly industrial looking that I have seen. I've never seen one in person though, just in catalogs and online.

Look for Rotring 400 or 900. Some of them are over priced but if you're patient you can get a good deal.

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
