Cigar Box Pen Storage Complete

GlennPen

Recommended Posts

My pens were rattling around my drawer and I wanted to keep them in good condition so I was looking for a case. Turns out, wooden pen cases are more expensive than an equally sized jewelry box. So, I found this thread:

Cigar Box Pen Storage Case

Inspired, I looked for some cigar boxes on ebay, and found a nice Playboy Cigarbox by Don Diego. Got some of the pen divider trays (one actually) and as it arrived today, trimmed to size.

And I love it. I should DIY things more often as this was fun.

Very nice. I've been inspired by the same thread and, thankfully, there's a local cigar shop with lots of empty boxes for sale - the kind of place dad said I'd better not ever visit, ever, ever, ever... But so many boxes, at a buck or two each, depending on how busy they are. Still need to get some of that ready made tray stuff, but I'm so tempted to try felt and cork and some suede, or some scrap leather perhaps, to match my DIY Midori-type travelers notebook...

LOL. Those are my husband's favorite cigars. I think we have several of those boxes floating around, unless he got rid of them. Guess I know what my next project is going to be...

If I may ask, where do you buy the divider trays?

+1. Where did you find the dividers? I seem to recall someone on FPN developing a new corrugated material with a flat bit in between each slot (like that pictured above). I cannot for the life of me find the thread about it now.

Thanks,

-Andy

Also, trays available at Pendora:

No affiliation. Yadda yadda.

You may also want to check A.C. Moore (and probably Michaels & Hobby Lobby) for similar trays. Also, you can usually download a coupon from all three for 40-50% discount each week. They limit you to one coupon to a single item at the check out. There's no rule saying you can't go back an a few minutes and use another coupon again.

Hint: If you are going through the line more than one time, plan to go a very quiet time so you don't have to wait in line very long.

Just my .02 cents worth...

A grey day is really a silver one that needs Your polish!

+1 on the trays from GoPens. Great material and great service from Gary! (no Affiliation---just a very pleased repeat customer).

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.
    • Ceilidh
Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
