Visconti Converter Doesn't Fit!

Can anyone tell me if the converter pictured here is actually for a Visconti Rembrandt? It came in the Visconti box but slides only part-way into the barrel before hitting resistance. Do I have a defective pen or does the converter look "wrong"?

Where did you get the pen ?

Do you have the instructions ?

What kind of cartridge does it use ?

Have you looked into the barrel for an obstruction ?

We can't tell what the converter looks like by this photograph.

Hmm, I don't know what happened with the photo -- I'll have to re-upload it when I get home. I bought the pen on eBay (new in box), it came with papers (I didn't look for instructions), I don't know what kind of cartridge it uses either (yet). There's nothing I can see inside the barrel that would obstruct it.

I'll post back after my shift. Sorry about the pic.

I see the converter (it is translucent but just visible) it looks like there may be a cartridge or other object stuck in the pen barrel. I would use a flashlight and have a close look you should be able to see all the way to the end.

Hi MadAmos, I can see only part of the cap (the rest of the pic I uploded looks black on my phone). If you can see the translucent part coming out of the barrel, then that's the pic I attached. The converter is inside the barrel as far as it will go (the black twist mechanism is inside the barrel and not visible in the pic I took. There is no object inside the barrel. The mid portion of the converter is too great in diameter to push the cap over the converter when it's attached to the piece above the feed inside the section. The pic shows the barrel upside down with the converter in the correct orientation. I'll take another look tonight and see if I can use a bit more force to push it through.

Thanks for your reply,

Any sort of force on a pen is a BAD idea!

Pens and paper everywhere, yet all our hearts did sink,

Pens and paper everywhere, but not a drop of ink.

Wise advice. Like the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner reference in your signature btw.

According to my B&M shop (LaCduC) the Rembrandt takes a different converter which looks a bit like the Schmidt K1. According to this shop (website) the standard converters do NOT fit the Rembrandt.

Here's a pic of the converter that came with the pen:

OK, problem solved:

The converter that came with my Rembrandt is, in fact, not compatible. It's called the Visconti Deluxe Piston Converter (V-AA51):

The converter needed for the Rembrandt is the AAS1, pictured below:

Luckily I found one, so thanks to everyone who posted in this thread!

And what was it?

Ah hem ... it was a black ink cartridge

The converter that came with the pen is the right one ... works like a charm!

Thanks, you nailed it! I thought to myself "there can't be a cartridge in there; if there is, I don't deserve the pen!" I was wrong (I humbly accept that fact) ...and I've convinced myself I deserve the pen despite being a hamfisted rookie who nearly broke the thing before I inked it!"

By initiating this posting, an inexperienced fountain pen "noobie" will teach

something to those who read it, for a long time. Aint it wonderful ?

No, friend. You don't deserve to be embarrassed, until you have sat upon and

destroyed the fountain pen in your hip pocket . . . for the fourth time.

So, how does your Rembrandt write ? There may be one in my future.

I have a Jinhao x250 from your endorsement.

And to those who apologize for asking "dumb" questions, I offer the gratitude

of one "too dumb" to think of such questions, and who has happily learned much.

Well Sasha, you're too kind :)

I'm glad you bought yourself a Jinhao x250 -- it's the one pen that hasn't let me down yet (no start-up problems or anything. It even wrote well when I tried to show a friend how "normal" nibs on fountain pens don't perform well when used in the left hand.

As for the Visconti Rembrandt ... I *love* the way it feels when I write with it. I bought it with a fine nib and the thing just flows effortlessly on any paper I've tried (Rhodia, Clairfontaine, Staples copy paper, and hospital charting paper (I couldn't resist taking it to work). The nib is soft and isn't a bit scratchy. I used to love my Lamys (fine or med) but the Visconti makes even my favorite pens feel scratchy. Writing is pure luxury with this pen and letters are so sharply defined that they look like laser font! Without doubt, this pen brings back the feeling I had when I first tried fountain pens! It's just gorgeous and the cap locks in with a magnet with a nice "clink". I just love it -- it's way more than I expected and I'm glad I shelled out the money. It's a keeper!
