$5000 Cash To Spend - Which Pen?

Salerno_AFG

Recommended Posts

I would be terrified to own a $5000 pen. All that money on something that could be lost, stolen and never fully enjoyed. I adore looking at amazing/rare/obscenely ornamental pens all day, but a few custom Edisons collected over a few years would probably make me happy as a clam.

Plus, isn't there something nice about earning your own lovely, usable pen?

You are absolutely right.

:clap1:

Doesn't cost anywhere near 5k but I've always wanted this, the Graf von Faber Castell Classic fountain pen in pernambuco wood. I love the simplistic design, the clean lines and looks beautifully engineered.

I have the mechanical pencil from this series, would have to buy the rest to match

A pen or a bike? That's a no brainier for me. $5000 would buy me a nice Pinarello...

CC has Dogma 2 framesets for sale for a reasonably tidy discount. Just sayin'

It's jes a great pen for the price. A basic, very reliable, smooth writer. The perfect gift pen to non FP folk.

A Pilot 845. Beautiful pen. Can't beat the nib. As mentioned anything over 700 for a pen its all about the material, finish, and design. Often times something that expensive 'might' be a disappointing writer. Check out the pen geeks awesome reviews. There are some very high end pens and great writers. Hope you find one.

After the MB 149 I think the Pelikan M1000 might be my next choice. Big pens are good :roflmho:

CONID BULK FILLER! You'd love it !

I know the feeling, my hands being 10". Strangely, small pens don't bother me. My Hero 5028s are 4-3/4" untopped and the caps will not top, yet I still have no problem writting with them. I can see where you would. ;)

I also can't afford an MB or M1000, but have discovered the Noodler Ebonite Konrad. This is a seriously meaty FP. At 13.3cm (5.2") un-topped and 16.5cm (6.5") topped, and 1.2cm (0.5") in dia., they are definitely larger than yer avg FP. They are also designed to take apart and customize extensively. Any like sized nib (# 5?) is adaptable. And only $40! Such a deal.

Even if i were a millionaire, i wouldn`t spend more than 500 dollars for a fountain pen(even less, actually).

Couldn't said it better, this reflects also my opinion.

I can't imagine that a pen > 500 € writes better in in even one aspect than a high quality pen < 500 €.

A plastic pen > ~ 500 € is in my opinion ridiculous (only my personal opinion).

A higher price from value perspective is IMHO only justifiable if the pen is made from solid gold or platinum or with gems (means value comes mainly from material value) or made with huge handicraft effort.

But all this will not improve its writing capabilities.

I had an opportunity to use an MB Voltaire last week, which really impressed me, so if someone magically gave me $5000 to spend on pen I would buy one of those and donate the remaining $3400 to my local animal shelter.

I'd re-buy my Hakase buffalo horn FP, and pocket rather a lot of money...

Too many pens; too little writing.

$5000 would not be enough ( I know )

Montblanc Winston Churchill or Montblanc 149 in solid platinum are the either or I would be looking to buy next but hey a $5000 donation towards one or the other would be very much appreciated

If I had 5K and I absolutely had to spend it, I would go with a Nakaya pen, not something flashy, in the vicinity of 500-800 dollars. A pen that would give me long hours of writing satisfaction. The rest of the money I would give to help others - for example, donate to the Red Cross or to institutions that help molested kids. That would make a difference, IMHO.
