$5000 Cash To Spend - Which Pen?

The Stallone pen.

i mean, if you're gonna flat-out intentionally spend that kinda' money on a pen, well ... better make it hurt.

(But perhaps this logic only makes sense to me.)

Okay, okay. If i were ACTUALLY buying something: an old-style Omas arco, probably. (The rest of the money i'd give to Make-A-Wish, or something.)

I'd probably order something gaudy from Gisi pens.

But frankly, I'd be happier ordering 5-12 custom pens from Gisi and guys like Brian Gray, and Shawn Newton.

Yeah, I'm in the 'gaudy' camp too.....

It's too much money or not enough.

I rather fancy one of the Montegrappa Cosmopolitan range.

Silver, about $3000, gold about $18000

One thing I would never do is to spend it on "That big plastic pen". Instead I would buy a pen from Henry Simpole to combine a superb writing pen with real art.

Pens and paper everywhere, yet all our hearts did sink,

Pens and paper everywhere, but not a drop of ink.

WOW :yikes: Does it even write? If that pen hasn't been named yet, I propose the "Yellow Submarine" :roflmho:

If you were to [receive] $5000 cash specifically to purchase any one pen of your choice which would it be and why? If you have a pic of your dream pen show us...

I think this is within the terms of your question, and doesn't twist your words too much.

Put it this way, if someone said to me that they were going to buy me a pen of my choice, that it could cost up to $5000, and that I couldn't take anything else, couldn't get more than one pen, and couldn't have the money that was left over, it would be possible to get a very nice Nakaya Maki e pen in the vicinity of $5000. Some cost more, some cost less, but a quick check finds models in the $4500 range.

When I got it, I would admire the craftsmanship for a while without inking it. I would then turn around and sell it in mint condition for whatever I could get.

This would no doubt offend whoever had given me the gift, but since it's hypothetical, I won't worry about it. In actual fact, neither I nor my friends and family are in the stratum of society that can consider spending this much on a luxury item.

"So convenient a thing it is to be a reasonable creature, since it enables one to find or make a reason for everything one has a mind to do."

As many Nakayas as I could get!

Still hoping to get my first this year. Saving pennies! (and I have to save a lot of them!) :-)))

This has been a tutorial in some of the more obscure, handmade pieces of fine craftsmanship. Just got done looking up the Nakaya fountain pen line at His Nibs. Their is definately beauty in simplicity.

Now that's gaudy! Even the name is shall I say, "baroque". Kind of cool to look at but I can't imagine it feeling good in the hand. I think I wouldn't be able concentrate on my writing with that in my hand. I'd be too busy looking at the pen. Then I'd go look at myself in the mirror holding it.

vintage solid gold 149 from the 60's-70's made by lefevre

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

that's a hard one to answer. personaly I like the waterman carene as it is a gorgeous pen to look at. I like waterman pens and have several. Although I am using a cross affinity at the moment. so my choice would be the carene by waterman. :-)

I was thinking "Jacques Cousteau", myself....

I shudder to think how heavy that must be to write with.
