If money was no object, I'd buy a set of Nakayas in every nib size available! Now, let's see . . . which model - color? Hummm. . . Choices, choices!

But just one aka-tamenuri would be okay at this point to see what all the fuss is about!

There's no particular pen out there that I want, but if something happens to come up at a reasonable price then I would consider it.

I wouldn't spend $5000 on a pen, however if I had $5000 and could spend all or part and still keep whatever was left and use it on anything else I wanted, I would probably spend $500-1000 on a pen. What pen? No idea. I would also spend >$1000 on a very nice watch to go with it. Say something with a Valjoux 7750 chrono - or even a moonphase. There are a variety of tourbillon movement watches available (chinese movements) in the $800-2000 range from companies such as Invicta, Android, and Stuhrling Original. You go Swiss Tourbillon and they START at about 50K and can go to 7 figures. So maybe go 3k on a nice Swiss branded watch and use the remaining on pen or pens.

I have never heard of those two makers, but Im googleing :eureka:

Can I ask, politely, how you got 77 posts on the Fountain Pen Network and have never heard of Sheaffer, and to a much lesser extent, Nakaya?

I admit not knowing of Nakaya either until I joined the forum myself, but Sheaffer (and Parker) are the world's best known pen brands and have been for over a hundred years.

As to $5000, why stop there, especially since you mention Ferraris, make it $10,000 or $100,000. There are pens you can buy for $10,000.

I'd probably order something gaudy from Gisi pens.

But frankly, I'd be happier ordering 5-12 custom pens from Gisi and guys like Brian Gray, and Shawn Newton.

Yes, you could ! You could buy MY Pelikan Souveran M1000. I'd sweeten with a full

bottle of Noodler's Eel ink of your choice. Free shipping. (It was worth a try.)

This offer is open to everyone out there.

I just couldn't spend that amount of money on one pen. Not unless I had more money than I knew what to do with. If ordered to do so {), I would almost certainly commission a bespoke pen. Or just be plain stupid and buy a Lepine Graphyscaf to sit and look at.......

Sorry, the above makers where the two I had never heard of....

Just to play the game -- somehow the five grand in my hands is good only for buying a pen, won't buy food or rent or whatever else, just a pen, just ONE pen, then I would order a custom Nakaya or Danitrio, with maki-e or raden or both, but not too much. It probably won't even cost $5,000, but that's the pen I would buy with the money that is good only for buying one fountain pen.
