Plastic Lamy Pens. Interchangeable Parts?

So here's the deal, I received a lamy joy calligraphy set as a christmas present. It came with one cap, one barrel, three grip sections, and three nibs (1.1, 1.5, and 1.9). While I love the pen, I don't really need two 1.1mm nibs (I already owned one) and I find that I don't use the 1.5mm a whole lot either. The set is designed so you can ink up each grip section separately and switch them off so you can easily switch inks or whatever for calligraphy. What I'm wondering is, could I use a barrel and cap from a lamy safari on the grip sections and get another whole pen essentially? I would really like a medium nib (or fine or broad) but I could use the second 1.1mm i have. Does anyone know if the parts are compatible (i know the nibs are) and if so, where can I get them on the cheap? I don't want to pay $20 a piece from lamy USA. Does anyone have a broken safari that I can consume for parts? where would i find broken pens? A broken feed here, a gnarled nib there, a cracked cap here, a cracked barrel there? i dont care if the parts match.

Hi,

The Lamy Joy parts such as caps and barrels do interchange with the Safari. The nibs interchange too. You can pull all the nibs and save the parts as spares if you want or put the nibs in different Lamy Safari, Al-Star, Joy, Vista, Studio, CP1, or other pens.

Does your joy set have a metal cap or a plastic one?

Long ago I listed the compatibility between Safari, Al-Star and joy components. If someone with good search-fu can find the link I will be grateful :).

Here's the link. Note that when I write "joy" I mean model 11 with the aluminium cap. For model 15 with the plastic cap treat it as a Safari.

Thanks for the link, thats great.

I have the plastic joy (red and black) with two extra grips/feeds/nibs. So I need a safari barrel and cap (and maybe nib).

Another thought I just had, are there any lamy trading forums? I could just trade some of my extra parts.

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

There is still chemistry for processing regular chrome (positive) films like Kodak Ektachrome and Fuji Velvia, but Kodachrome was a completely different and multistep beast.

Ah, but how to get it processed - that is the question. I believe that the last machine able to run K-14 (Kodachrome processing) ceased to operate some 15 or so years ago. Perhaps the film will be worth something as a curiosity in my estate sale when I die. 😺

Take a lot of photos!   If the film has deteriorated or 'gone off' in any way, you can use that as a 'feature' to take 'arty' pictures - whether of landmarks, or people, or whatever.
