Since Platinum has proprietary cartridges, and the Kaweco only uses standard international ones, the Platinum carts won't fit the Kaweco. Sorry! However, there are numerous other companies which make international cartridges. Hope this helps!

Hey Deadmuse,

:W2FPN: The Kaweco blue cartridges are not very waterproof, like most blue inks. It's on the dry side, meaning you will feel a lot of 'feedback' from the nib as you write.

No, Platinum cartridges will not fit. That pen takes small international cartridges. It's probably easier to list the brands that do not take these kind of cartridges: Aurora, Cross, Lamy, Montblanc, Parker, Sheaffer, Pilot, Platinum, Sailor all use their own proprietary cartridge. If I have missed any, someone will bring them into the conversation.

Check out Diamine and Private Reserve for a good selection of ink cartridges. The Sport Classic is a great pen, portable and a smooth nib.

I don't recall it's water resistance. I like Kaweco ink, though, especially their brown. Don't let that discourage you from getting the Kaweco. It's a great pen. You can fill empty cartridges with water resistant/waterproof ink (Pilot Blue or one of the many Noodler's inks) or convert the Sport to a eyedropper.

Hi,

The royal blue ink in the Kaweco cartridges can be eradicated with an ink eradicator. It's also washable from clothes if I remember correctly.

Don't know about the waterproofness, but the color is OK if you like bright inks. It's almost violet and can even look kind of neon on yellow paper. Let me run a sample under some water. Brb

I have been very happy with the Kaweco sports as I like the way it writes with a very hard nib. That may influence the ink you want to use however, wanting something on the wetter side. I used Pelikan Edelstein with good results. In fact, I picked up the pen after 2 months of no use and it started smoothly straight away. My biggest reservation with them was the ink too. I ended up simply refilling the empty ink cartridges from my bottled ink collection using a syringe with no real fuss or mess. Problem solved! I had read of others using the pen with no cartridge and just filling the barrel, but you need to use scuba tank grease to make the seal tight. I tried Teflon with limited success. It was too messy for me, so I have happily gone back to refilling the cartridges.

By the way, I got my first Sports from jetpens and they have great prices, reliability and service. Even shipping to Australia, they were very cheap. I since discovered a cheaper source online right here in Australia, notemaker.com.au - but I am not sure what the cost to ship to you would be. Again, excellent service and they answered my email enquiries really quickly. No affiliations or financial interest to disclose.

Enjoy your pen!

You can use a Monteverdi Mini Converter in it.

Stephen Brown has a video on YouTube showing it.

I don't know. I got a Monteverde Mini converter and a Rosetta Mini converter (they look identical) and neither fit any of my Sports

I also tried the Monteverde mini-converter. It wouldn't snap in securely. However, it did snap in on an older "Kaweco by Diplomat" Sport Classic.

Jeez, that took way to long to figure out how to embed that :) I skipped the most obvious, and did everything else, before doing the simple thing. Doh!

Thanks for all the great ideas. My old Waterman ink would get completely washed away by a single drop, and it seems Kaweco blue is similar. It's good to hear that their black won't be completely washed out. I'm going with that one for now. This pen will be a "re-entry" to fountain pens for me, so I want the lowest maintenance possible. I'll leave the converter and eye-dropper adventures to the more seasoned among you.

I'm buying the fountain pen to pair with my newly-purchased Kaweco rollerball. I'm mainly a rollerball user and I absolutely love the Kaweco design, weight, and size. But I didn't like the way their refill wrote, especially at $7.50 to replace, so I managed to fit my favorite Sarasa after cutting it down to size, and it only costs $1.

I'm hoping the FP with a Kaweco black will be fine since it's the nib that will be the main factor.

I turned my Kaweco Ice Sport into an eyedropper-filler with just a spot of silicone grease on the threads. I keep it loaded with Noodler's (Bulletproof) Black and have zero worries about ink wash-away.

  • 2 weeks later...

I use Diamine bottled ink in some pens, but my Parker Vacumatic has great difficulty starting with it and I then usually manage to flood it.

Don't know if this is related to your problem or not, but I'd love to find an ink that works well in the PV...
