My New Nakaya

Hello All,

Since you were all so helpful in answering questions for me, I thought it only right to show you my new pen. Fair warning, I did not clean up the pen for its photo shoot, it is a working pen and has not been uninked since I opened it on Christmas Eve!

I'm not going to do a full review, as these pens have been covered before. I will say that this is the most expensive pen I have purchased to date. The question I had asked myself prior to purchase was would it be worth it? I can now reply with an extremely positive YES! The nib on this pen is amazing, my previous favorite was an 18 ct Bock nib on my modern Conway Stewart. Great nib, but the Nakaya blows it out of the water! I'm already planning my second Nakaya! I don't think one is going to be enough...

Congrats on your Nakaya! It is a beautiful pen. I really like the rose gold nib paired with the kuro-tame. And you're right--one Nakaya is just not enough!

I know exactly what you mean about one Nakaya not being enough. I have one, the Blue Dragon portable cigar with a BB nib ground to a stub by John Mottishaw, and it is an amazing pen. Satisfies the senses in so many ways - visually, tactile, and the writing experience. Now however I am spoiled and am reluctant to buy any other pens because I think I'll be disappointed.

Holding the line at eight, me, but always thinkin' about nine and ten.... Don't know when or if, but it's always back there, back of the mind....

 

I don't have a black matte Nakaya with a ruthenium-plated nib, for instance. Nor a custom design....

 

Meanwhile, I have these.... Having these makes not having those palatable. :-)

How's the Soft Medium? Is it bouncy? It's the nib I want when I finally pull the trigger on this pen. I don't flex, but I like how bouncy my Reform 1745 nib is and I want something that has a little give.

 

Also how long is the Piccolo uncapped? I keep going back and forth between this and a portable.

Yes, the soft medium is on the bouncy side, I really like that about this pen. Uncapped from the tip of the nib to the end of the pen (unposted) is 4 5/8". It's a smaller pen,but my hands are on the small side so its fine. It has a nice girth to it as well.

Congratulations on your first Nakaya! I had min not very long ago, and this december I really enjoyed the writing of the christmas cards for the first time in a very long time. Buuuut, I am already longing for my next. Or actually, I am contemplating i Danitrio - I midori-dame Octagon

Now I come to think of it, my first Nakaya was a Piccolo as well, in yellow tame-nuri. I had already caught the virus before though, with a Danitrio Mikado.
