Vintage Propelling Pencils

Hi everyone,

Just joined so i am sure someone will soon tell me if i am in the wrong place lol

I have started a collection of vintage silver propelling pencils.

I have figured out how to refill most of them apart from a couple of the more ornate sliding versions similar to the one in the image.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a similar pencil and the lead should grab when you press it in far enough. So on mine I just press the lead in really hard. There should/might (???) be a little spike inside on an inner tube that holds the lead. Mine doesn't work all that well... but I think this is the theory behind how it's supposed to work.

I was about to dismantle the whole thing :hmm1: :hmm1:

Mine does have a spike inside but does not appear to open up to grab, it is just a like there to push the lead out i assume so all i can get in is about 10mm but it does not grip it. :huh:

My spike is just a spike.... it doesn't open up or anything. I got the lead to "grab" by pushing it in hard. That said, the second time I tried it it wasn't holding as well. I don't know that much about these pencils. BTW, mine is also a retractable dip pen.

Antique mechanical pencils used fat lead.... 1.1 mm sometimes.
