Packing A Long Cigar In A Exb Wrap

I've been trying to find a way to carry my Nakaya long cigar and a few other fountain pens in the same case. The problem is; the Nakaya long cigar is so long and it doesn't fit into most standard-size cases. The other constraint is that i've been trying to downsize my baggage, so the pens/cases must fit into 1/3 of a front pocket of my 13" lab top bag. I think i finally found a good solution. The EXB pen wraps (http://www.exbpens.com/store/) have been reviewed here before, and it seemed like that the fabric would be long/flexible enough to accommodate the long cigar. I ordered and quickly received three very beautiful wraps.

They fit nicely into my 13" incase bag, along with a leuchtturm1917 journal

Here are the pens in the wrap (Waterman 52, Nakaya long cigar, MB 145)

There is ample room and the pockets are long enough that the pens don't touch while wrapped. Not sure how 'impact-resistant' the wrap is... but i kept my Nakaya in its little silk kimono till now, so i am guessing that it is actually more protected in the cloth wrap vs. the cute silk kimono it came with.

happy with the product so far, but i am curious to see how you carry your long cigar around (with friends).

Thanks for the wonderful review with photos. My terrible photography in my original review that you linked to didn't do her wraps justice. The largest pens I've put in my assortment of EXB Pen wraps have been a Pilot Custom 823, Edison Huron, and Conid Fountainbel Bulk Filler FPR. They all fit without any issue.

It is neat to see a long cigar in there. My wraps get carried daily and have held up well.

Thank you govindbn, and thank you Thomas for your original review. i literally spent a good day shopping around Toronto to find a leather case that was long enough for the Nakaya; none fit - i got several recommendations for St. Dupont's 3 cigar case (and here cigar means stogies for smoking and not the urushi covered goodness we know and love); but sadly, the dupont is too big for my labtop case, and also too big for the other pens i carry along with the Nakaya. I found your review after a quick search - placed the order that night, and had the wraps in 3 days time. So far the pen wrap has been doing a wonderful job. I also found that many of Elizabeth's wraps complement the spirit of Nakaya (i.e. Asian inspired?), which is the reason i posted this review here.

Cheers

Oddly enough, I also bought one of EXB's pen wraps for carrying around my rotation (or part thereof), which typically includes a Nakaya Neo Standard and am considering buying a second wrap to carry around some other pens. (The Japanese-style material in some of the pen wraps goes well with Japanese pens) FYI, depending on your tolerance for pen co-habitation, you can actually fit >1 pen in a slot. (For example, I can fit a 146 and Sailor Sapporo into a single slot, but I wouldn't suggest doing this with larger pens like Nakaya Cigars or MB 149s)

The cloth used in the wraps is actually pretty sturdy and if you ever have a problem with it, Elizabeth (the seller) stands by her product. I had a small problem with one of the grommets on a strap used to keep the wrap shut; not only did the Elizabeth reply with some advice within 24 hours, she offered me a new wrap if I couldn't fix it. (I was able to fix it, BTW) Customer service like that is rare these days, unfortunately.

My thoughts exactly - her wraps match really well with the subtle elegance of Nakaya pens

Oh to have that translucent pink Prera! @migo984 has the Oeste series named after birds. There is a pink one, so I’m assuming Este is the same pen as Oeste.    Excellent haul. I have some Uniball One P pens. Do you like to use them? I like them enough, but don’t use them too much yet.    Do you or your wife use Travelers Notebooks? Seeing you were at Kyoto, I thought of them as there is a store there.

It's not nearly so thick that I feel it comprises my fine-grained control, the way I feel about the Cross Peerless 125 or some of the high-end TACCIA Urushi pens with cigar-shaped bodies and 18K gold nibs. Why would you expect me or anyone else to make explicit mention of it, if it isn't a travesty or such a disappointment that an owner of the pen would want to bring it to the attention of his/her peers so that they could “learn from his/her mistake” without paying the price?

Why nobody says that the section of Tuzu besides triangular shape is quite thick. Honestly it’s the thickest one among my many pens, other thick I own is Noodler’s Ahab. Because of that fat section I feel more control and my handwriting has improved. I can’t say it’s comfortable or uncomfortable, but needs a moment to accommodate. It’s funny because my school years are long over. Besides this pen had horrible F nib. Tines were perfectly aligned but it was so scratchy on left stroke that collecte

Awesome! I'm in the process of preparing my bag for our pen meet this weekend and I literally have none of the items you mention!! I'll see if I can find one or two!

@asota -- Yeah, I think I have a few rolls in my fridge that are probably 20-30 years old at this point (don't remember now if they are B&W or color film) and don't even really know where to get the film processed, once the drive through kiosks went away....  I just did a quick Google search and (in theory) there was a place the next town over from me -- but got a 404 error message when I tried to click on the link....  Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth
