Rare Eagle Automatic Mechanical Pencil.

One of the first mechanical pencils with a push button spring clutch, this 2mm leadholder has a wooden barrel, metal fittings and bears a patent marking from 1879.

Welcome !

A collectible is worth what a collector is willing to pay for it.

Fountain pen collectors are "fickled".

The clutch-mechanism lead holder is a very common design used in

drafting and art. The patent date is meaningless in determining

the age of this pencil. Do you have evidence of the age of THIS

pencil ? Also, OLD does not, in itself, equate to rare or valuable.

Is this Parker 51 "Special Edition" a cartridge feed fountain pen ?

If so, I think it might have a conventional nib, rather than the

very desirable "hooded" nib of the original Parker 51.

If this is, in fact, the Parker 51 version that I was offered a few

years ago for $100, I didn't want it.

I hope someone from the Parker sub-forum will chime in and give you

good news.

Good luck.

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Hi Pippi,

Welcome to the Fountain Pen Network!!

I live in the next county west of you. Glad to know you're there. We'll certainly drop in the next time we're over.

Do you mind if I make a suggestion? This forum, "New Members" doesn't get the same amount of "viewership", as the one called "Writing Instruments." If you were to repost your pictures there I think you'd have a better chance of someone seeing them who knows something about them.

Also, there is forum called something like "Merchants" where you could post events, sales, whatever. In fact, you may want to re-post the blurb about your shop, it's location, and all that. Might generate interest.

Now, lest you think I'm being altruistic and just generally helpful, my true underlying reason is that I'd like to see a pen shop stay in business around here, of course!! :roflmho:

Well, not really, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Glad you're here. :clap1: :W2FPN: :clap1:

I can't remember -- how far is York from East Berlin? I may need an excuse to go to the Mannings at some point in the near future (like I *really* need one :roflmho: -- other of course for the problem that if I go I will want to spend money...) and I seem to recall York being about another hour east (on little roads).

The other problems, of course are (1) from the Pittsburgh area it's a bit of a hike; and (2) I may have to be saving up to buy a replacement van really soon....

Ruth,

It's not far at all really (<1/2 hour?). If you've come all the way from Pittsburgh, i think its worth the extra distance. Rt 234 goes east-west right through E. Berlin. If you continue east it will take you to York.

I just checked Google, it's ~21min via Rt 234 and almost a straight shot.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND A REPLACEMENT NIB HOUSING FOR THE EMPIRE STATE 2002 LIMITED EDITION IN BLACK? I RAN INTO THE NOW LEGENDARY PARKER MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WHERE THE THREAD ON THE NIB SECTION THAT SCREWS INTO THE BARREL CRACKED. PARKER OF COURSE DOES NOT HAVE THE SPARES AND THEY DIDN'T BOTHER TO DO A RECALL. I USED IT A FEW TIMES AND BINGO, CRACKED PLASTIC!

I'VE BEEN TOLD THERE IS SOMEONE WHO WILL ACTUALLY MANUFACTURE THE PARTS FOR A MODEST PRICE. HELP...

THANKS

It would be more likely to get an answer to ask this over in the Parker forum.
