Question About Snorkels?

I just saw some snorks on ebay going for buy it now at 300+ for a fern green, and a flex nib. Is this guy crazy, or is that realistic? I've never heard of a snork for over ~100?

Depends on the Snorkel. The Pen For Men (PFM) is the most expensive Snorkel type pen I'm aware of, (on a regular basis), also original snorkel demonstrators are extremely valuable. I suppose it depends on the pen and nib. Anything 'flex' will bring top dollar...

The fern green is the key. The pen is indeed a fern green snorkel which is arguably one of most desirable of the 6 rare colors.

For more details, you can check the Dark Lord's guide to snorkels.

The current buy it now price might be a tad high but it's in the ballpark. Others have sold for $300 from dealers.

Any link? What kind of Snorkel is it? A fern green is a rarity and prized by collectors. Is the nib marked FX5 (flexible extra fine)? If it is, the seller isn't a nut but knows his stuff!

The seller knows it is fern but, he doesn't know anything about pens which will be offputting to someone looking for a reliable seller of a fern. If it were a respected seller $325 would be fair. The distinction is important as this fern might have other problems that the seller is just not knowledgeable enough to know about. I sold a fern two years ago for $300.

To correct you I don't see where he states that it is flexible (he says it is fine or medium). If it were it starts to over egg the pudding as it is worth the $325 as a fern add a flex nib and it gets to be too much and will likely only be worth $325 anyway as rare colors added to rare nibs don't usually add to the value. Put the flex on a common snorkel and you'd get more money for both.

This is one optimistic seller! Then again, I seem to remember people once sold land in Alaska on cereal boxes. Still, this seems like a stretch, unless someone is desperate to try out all your repair skills at once.

The OP may be confusing this pen with the seller's other Snorkel, which he claims is flexible (but is not marked as such).

Credibility does seem to be an issue here. The seller is new, has not sold anything on ebay yet, admits he is not pen-literate, and refuses to accept returns. That's a three-way whammy. Both pens have bids now, so the option to Buy It Now is gone. The pens will sell. It's just a matter of how much they bring.

This is not the seller in question.

just saw that these got relisted. hmm

The fern in the OP did not get relisted and sold low but, from a new seller that was to be expected. The other pens not in the OP shouldn't even be in this topic.

My ebay page shows it sold and relisted two hours later. Is this right?

And it appears that the winning bidder also won the seller's other Snorkel auction, which was also relisted two hours later by the same seller. So double Hmmm...

Not much of a surprise there.

Now I have further suspicions but I can't voice those here. Time to send some e-mails. :hmm1:

OK, buyer pulled out or a buddy tried to bid it up. He's not likely to get $400 anyway. Looks like he won't let it go for a bargain so there's no point to the auction.

It's a couple of college kids working as a tag team. Look at the location. The pen won't bring $400, and I agree the auction is pointless.

Edit: The pen would have sold for $92, rather than $285, if the shill buddy had not jumped in.

Recent ebay sales would indicate that a flex. nib ( or any uncommon nib for that matter) on a Snork. is a $200 pen....sounds stupid but then they are not exactly common. Then again I look at my one flex snork. set ( okay, I haven't looked but I'm sure there's one in a box somewhere...)and think maybe I'd prefer the money.

This whole episode rung some bells for me, too, as an observer of FPN and some other forums.
